'tis the day where canuck fans will start turning on Benning and co. lol. here's hoping to a good cup run lol

highfive 04-08-2015 04:00 PM

Happy dorsett resigned. He helped Bo a lot and hell, he plays his ass off every shift!

Sbisa is another Edler to me, he needs to find his own Tanev to play with. Get some confidence going and play his game.

it's worth it imo, you just can't replace what he brings to the table. Good on Benning for recognizing that.
they were stupid for letting Torres walk, good thing Dorsett is sticking around.
dunno what the Sbisa numbers are but one things for sure, one of Bieksa or Hamhuis will have to go in the off season.

Dorsett = Torres 2.0.

Just as chippy and physical but smarter and better offensively. I agree we should've re-signed Raffy at the time though.

6o4__boi 04-08-2015 05:33 PM

Damn...Caps are up on the Bruins 2-0.
Hopefully the Sens can make the dance...if all goes well 5/7 Canadian teams will be in.

Can't rmbr the last time there was that much in the playoffs

Hondaracer 04-08-2015 06:30 PM

so basically Bennings contracts =

Miller
Vrbata
Dorsett
Sbisa

I'd say each one of those contracts is either at or above market value. At least MG could get them to take discounts in hopes of building a better team. If we sign Dorsett for that value at the expense of Mathias thats gonna be fucking wack.

6o4__boi 04-08-2015 07:10 PM

Lol fuck the discount....in case you forgot, he also gave ntc's like it was cooties in elementary.

Juries out on the signings but Dorsett is good value.
I think Sbisa is overpaid but hes got lots of time to justify the contract.
Vrbata is the best free agent signing of the season.

MG gave Higgins an ntc. Signed Luongo to a retarded contract. Nuff said.

What would you have done?

Matthias isn't exactly endearing himself these past few games so if he ends up walking it may not be so bad after all. (Inb4 power forwards take a while to develop)

XplicitLuder 04-08-2015 07:11 PM

can't really count miller or vrbata..

for dorsett i thikn he would have asked that much if he got to free agency lol i think the price is okay, but with a 4 year term maybe he coulda taken a smaller pay but overall its fine. with matthias i wouldnt be surprised if hes gonna ask quite a bit more than what they want to pay, and it gives space for baertschi and others to come up and try to make the team

Tegra_Devil 04-08-2015 08:27 PM

Johnny Hockey for Calder....especially if flames make the playoffs

MG also handed out NTC with almost all his extensions/signings...

If we let Matthias walk it would be a huge mistake.

It's not easy for 3/4 line guys to chip in 20~ goals in a season with virtually no PP time. Not to mention his size and speed. Matthias is one of the few power forwards on this team who can bury the puck, you don't let a guy like that go.

How you even bring up his "past few games" and let that determine whether he walks or not is beyond retarded. You judge a guy based on the season he's had. Matthias gives you everything you can ask for from a 3/4 line player and then some.

While Gaudreau has had a great season, I just can't support anyone over Ekblad, who has done spectacularly as an 18-year-old.

37 points, 22 minutes/game, +11 on a largely minus team, positive corsi player on a largely minus team, etc.

hi-revs 04-08-2015 09:44 PM

Anyone able to hook me up with a Horvat jersey??

Pls pm if you can.
Thanks.

Ronin 04-08-2015 10:00 PM

Dorsett is a good signing. Maybe a bit too much money. Closer to $2m would've been better but we're splitting hairs really.

Sbisa...wtf...$3.6m.

willystyle 04-08-2015 10:11 PM

Dorsett is getting paid 2M per season now, another 600K per season for his new contract shouldn't even be a discussion considering all the intangibles he offers and he doesn't have a NTC.

HonestTea 04-08-2015 10:40 PM

Perfectly fine with the Dorsett signing, especially without a NTC. Sbisa is debatable since I don't think we've seen his potential just yet.

It's even more incredible given that he's playing a position that is the toughest to adjust to with the most resposibility (besides goaltending)

I guess living with Willie and having him as a mentor really helped Ekblad's development. This kid is going to be a stud.

murd0c 04-09-2015 07:45 AM

The kid is already a stud

lol jimmy rustled alert...your fucking face is beyond retarded. :lawl:
chill bro i'd love to see Matthias back as much as anyone
but if he goes to ask something say around $4M...fuck that.

stats speak for themselves. he's a good 3/4 line and that's the money he should be getting.
here's "past few games" to unrustle your jimmies.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id...42015&view=log

in the 26 games since his hat trick he's had 7 pts
the past 10 games its a whopping 1 goal
the first month of the season it was a whopping 2 assists.

so yeah, judging on the season so far, if we can't afford him, we can definitely afford to let him walk because he doesn't fight, he doesn't exactly generate a lot hits, he wins board battles every now and then and he doesn't make players around him better.

Hondaracer 04-09-2015 09:11 AM

Won't pay Mathias 4 but pays the worst +/- on da team 3.6

And I would argue he does make the players around him better but only when he's playing center

punkwax 04-09-2015 09:17 AM

NHL D-men are more valuable to the Canucks right now. They'll have a lot of forwards competing for a roster spot next year.. many of which won't have a high salary.

Supply and demand, folks.

6o4__boi 04-09-2015 09:20 AM

yeah, i hope Spizza's contract doesn't come back to bite us in the ass later
i still can't get over that fact...how exactly did they come to that number
plus he's an RFA.
but at least he doesn't have an ntc lol

I dunno whatever happened with Matthias being a pivot man...it pisses me off that WD has such a hard on for Vey
Matthias could easily have been the centre on Vey's line and have McMillan in instead of Vey. Then maybe Matthias could do more cus as it stands now, he hasn't done too much and Vey is rotting whatever line he plays on.

Hondaracer 04-09-2015 10:29 AM

Yea like get Vey the fuck out of here

Enough about this Medicine Hat connection the guy is a liability

The biggest thing I don't like about letting Mathias go is the loss of size, yes we have a bunch of players in baertschi, virtanen, etc waiting but our prospect pool is looking like the oilers, they are all skilled undersized guys. The loss of Mathias is moreso about that loss of size and physical presence, he does create room with his body when he's on his game.

And where the hell is Kassian...uhg man seems like he probably won't be returning

Centres are just as valuable to the Canucks too. You can never have enough.

Just wait till the playoffs... If Henrik, Bonino, or Vey is having a shit night in the faceoff dot, and we are relying on Bo to win them for us, we are not going to win those games.

I missed the days where we had Kesler and Malhotra taking all the faceoffs for us.
