1L for a 8 sessions at the ridge.

boibuddha 07-18-2016 07:28 PM

Ouch, that's basically a quart with every tank of fuel.

My GSR block burns anywhere from 1-3L between oil changes, depends on how much vitamin "V" I am willing to take.

RevYouUp 07-18-2016 08:20 PM

My GSR runs pretty well, 500ml-1L between 5k oil changes. I have 272k on my motor as well

i've had a leakdown and compression test done. The oil control rings are seem to be the culprit.

that doesn't sound normal... topping up every time you fill the gas tank!

white rocket 07-19-2016 07:43 AM

I used to go through 1L+ at each track day :P. I kept it topped up after each session and never had an issue for 2 years. Now that the motor is built, zero oil burning issues. It almost doesn't feel right not burning oil now. Such a trademark B series occurrence.

thumper 07-19-2016 07:57 AM

my old 98 would only burn hard when i was getting into vtec all the time, or extended highway driving. i had to keep a quart of oil in the back and check the level every time i went for gas. but if i stayed in the city grinding in rush hour traffic it burned very little.

!e.lo_ 07-19-2016 08:34 AM

city+highway, no VTAK, doesn't need to be topped up. I would check every gas fillup.

At track.. lol top up like 0.5-1L per every two sessions. so pretty close to 3L a full day.

tegra7 07-19-2016 06:53 PM

65km since my last wash.

I learned the hard way on my ITR.
Topped off the oil before the first session, spun a rod bearing before the first session ended at ORP.
Burned 1L of oil in each of the 20 min sessions at PR and Ridge with my stock GSR motor.

But both motors burned very little oil when out of Vtec, but what fun is that?

Also learned not to put anything directly behind the exhaust when the car is parked.
Upon startup, my toolbox was covered in that black soot. :okay:

Iron Chef 07-20-2016 08:19 AM

I was in the same boat , I used to burn 1L/1000km

Did a full oem rebuild, os Pistons , bearings , guides , valves.

I now burn 0.5L 5000km
I burned 1L for 7 sessions at the ridge + the drive to and from Shelton.

looks like she needs a rebuild , the only advice I can offer
Is do a full rebuild with os Pistons , guides and valves.

thumper 07-20-2016 09:09 AM

any concerns about all this oil fouling up the catalytic converter? this is assuming not all of you are running a test pipe?

SumAznGuy 07-20-2016 09:46 AM

The cat runs really hot. I would think it would be able to burn off the oil once it gets up to proper operating temps.

Depends on the scope of rebuild, if everything is in good shape and you just go with OS pistons and rings, bore/hone, new ACL bearings for mains/rods, and new valve seals you would probably be able to get all the parts and machine work for around 2000-2500$.

Keep in mind at that price you would have to remove engine and assemble the completed long block, the shop would assemble the bottom end only and re-install the valves in the head.

Maybe talk to G5?

I only ever had one B series that burned *almost* no oil, the one that was in my PY ITR, it was a very strong engine too :)

It might be worth doing the valve seals first, these can be done with the timing belt on and the engine in the car (Compressed air to keep valves from dropping after keepers are removed).

I know this sounds retarded but sometimes I've wondered if the b series engine just pulls so much vacuum that it draws more oil down the valve shaft than a "normal" engine.

Tegra7 you don't want it anymore eh?

G5 quoted me 5k for a full rebuild. The leakdown test showed the valve seals/ guides to be just fine. Just the bottom end needs a rebuild.

Feeler ad. Would love to get US $ for it.

I bet will sell. Mileage is low and no claims! List on ITR Expo and HT for sure.

Iron Chef 07-21-2016 07:21 PM

i did an oem rebuild with new jdm itr os pistons, anything rubber like hoses and o-rings got replaced with oem, did all valve guides with new oem valves

i did the engine re/re and engine assembly.

basically for just parts and machine work was approx 4k to do a full oem rebuild. i may have spent a little more updated some parts like clutch and flywheel but i would at least budget 4k.

Not very enthusiastic about selling. It will take me ages to find another claim free shell or maybe never.

Finally sold to a buyer from Surrey. I am selling the 17" Volk TE37 as the buyer had their own wheels.

Suprarz666 07-23-2016 09:06 AM

If someone on RS is interested, you can have them for $100. First one to PM me gets it.

They are in mediocre condition. Great for winter or a proper refinish.

ITR Expo Forums: WA: 1998 Acura Integra Type R

A really nice 98 CW if anyone is looking. Even with the dollar.

Edit: paint is not original. Buyer flew from California and is angry.

TouringTeg 07-30-2016 12:29 PM

Bought some EDM LHD ITR floor mats on ebay today. About $200 CAD shipped from Hungary. I can't bring myself to use my new in the package 2001 mats until the paint is restored. (Thanks for the mats jasonturbo)

Price is a tad high since it looks like it will need a bit of work.
