BCAA has an original Leaf as an ad car when I worked at Evo. We've taken it out to lunch before and it had 80km of range fully charged. On a car that doesn't get driven that much. Terrible things.

Dude I think we almost worked together once! I applied to be the fleet manager for Evo about 5-6 years ago, but bailed on the interview because I decided it would be way too stressful to join a startup and I'm too old for that lol

Oh we totally would have worked together then. I was there 2018 to 2020. I worked on the tech side but it was always fun to go down to the garage to see all the shenanigans that ppl have gotten into with the cars.

There's really nothing startup-y about them since BCAA backs them and they have to answer to all of the BCAA's board.

I left before their expansion to Victoria, so if anything was going to be tough it may have been dealing with a separate location altogether. From what I understand the two fleets are separate and don't interchange.

Hyundai/Kia really wanted to get into that slice of pie in late 2019 and the Evo team got a few test cars, there's a few Kia's in the fleet right now but it looks like they stuck with Toyota and Prius.

Wow, they said on global news today that about 23% of all light vehicle sales in BC for 2023 were EV's.

The leaked photos from a couple days ago didn't look very good but these shots look pretty sharp to me.

The Neue Klasse X is slightly larger than the current X3 sold here and the all-electric iX3 offered globally. The interior feels as spacious as an X5.
Mildly annoyed that they aren't making these cars smaller to take advantage of the improved packaging. The same goes for the new Audi Q6 - it's way roomier than the Q5 which it replaces and gets bigger not the outside. They could have made it the same size or smaller and still have been roomier.

I thought EVs were considered hella heavy.

I really like the exterior look of the Neue Klasse cars, the interior though, I'm a bit hesitant. I'm surprised they did away with the iDrive controller. If the NK cars come with a frunk at a slightly bigger than G01 X3 size, I would be sold. 30% more range at similar capacities, and 20% more charge at the same battery size is a HUGE improvement when you consider BMW iX is rated to be the most efficient EV on a per mile basis awhile ago.

None of the German EVs are particularly well packaged imo. The original eTron is terrible, the Taycan has poor interior space for the footprint. The ID3 somehow doesn't have a frunk, same with the iX.

There must be something Tesla is doing or not doing to enable them to have so much more space. I wonder if there's some comfort or build consideration that the Germans are building for that Tesla doesn't care about, or Tesla's whole big cast pieces actually save them that much more space and allows them to stuff components in places that the Germans can't.

Perhaps they're choosing components that are shared with their ICE models which limits their packaging options? It does seem bizarre. Although the iX rides on a dedicated EV platform, the quote below suggests it is closely related to CLAR:

Quote:

Weber said the platform is described by Weber a “totally new development”, though he says it is “highly compatible” with the CLAR platform used for the likes of the BMW 3 Series and X5, suggesting key elements of its engineering will be used by other new BMW i sub-brand models in the future. This shared chassis componentry is key to allowing BMW to produce the iX alongside the 5, 6, 7 and 8 Series at its Dingolfing factory in Germany.

ioniq 5 N Pricing is out $78,199 before Freight and PDI

Meaning if you want the Matte Performance Blue Paint - all in all should be about $82,979 + 15% tax = $95,426 out the door...

Yap, no rebates at all and 15% lux tax

So it is about $2,000 more than the EV6 GT without the Matte Paint OR $11,000 more than the Model Y Performance

Not sure if we are start taking money though~

BlackV62K2 03-21-2024 11:17 AM

Crazy to pay almost 100K for a Hyundai lol

teggy604 03-21-2024 01:06 PM

Does anyone know if the ridge, mission, pacific raceway have charging stations installed? I assume people will want to track their EVs.

Traum 03-21-2024 01:17 PM

Mission has at least one L3 charger with 2 CCS plugs on site located near the start of (spectator) grand stands of the drag strip. There are also two 50kW-ish L2 chargers with CCS and CHAdeMO plugs at the Superstore close to the race track.

11k more than a MYP is going to be a hard sell.

I finally saw a Toyota Crown the other day outside a supermarket, and it was in the poster boy black and red colour too!

Boy was that thing ever ugly IRL lol~

Klondike 03-21-2024 09:31 PM

Saw the Crown in person and it's huge for a sedan... almost has a crossover height.

Avalon TRD was only available in the US IIRC

OTOH, the Crown Signia which is basically the wagon version looks pretty sharp.

bcrdukes 03-22-2024 05:47 AM

Ugly Crown = :sweetjesus:

EvoFire 03-22-2024 08:23 AM

I saw a Crown in San Diego, I thought it actually was decent in person. It doesn't translate well to pics

The whole roof line / trunk lines / rear end of the sedan is just ugly and messy. The 2-tone grill in front is also visually much too wide, so it looks awkward.

The Crown Signia, on the other hand, sticks to a far more traditional SUV / wagon look with good clean lines.

It's almost like having two identical twins where one is handsome while the other one is ugly LOL~

bcrdukes 03-22-2024 10:47 AM

Traum - you need to work harder in finding the beauty from its ugliness!
