They just installed fiber in my area, Telus doorknockers have been coming by.

Doorknocker: "We can do this and that, blah blah"
Me: "Great, leave some info, I'll review and compare with my current service and get back to you"
Doorknocker: "Sorry, this is just a limited time offer for today"
Me: "Too bad then, goodbye"

I don't trust the fiber installers to do the install through my house exactly how I would want it anyways.

Contractor drop installer, contractor door knockers. Even after being reported to the CRTC it seems like these ultra high pressure door to door sales haven’t stopped.

My deal is garbage tgough compared to what a lot of regular customers have.. uhg

We were setting up our service back in 2021, and I was told we could not stack my wife's Telus corporate discount on top of whatever discounts they were offering. If you can make it stick please come on by.

I'm going to be taking a position with Lifeworks/Telus Health in mid/late March. Apparently we get 50% discount on Telus services via being "Telus" employees, however I'd still need to sign up either way.

Not sure if that would still apply to you though?

40% discount. If it was higher it'd considered a taxable benefit by CRA from what I understand.

You absolutely can stack discounts. And the door-to-door when they run area-wire/building promotions are the best ones, and usually they "expire" but you just call in and they extend it.

This is my Telus home services bill, and I just renewed all discounts into 2026 (without extending contract).

ilovebacon 02-03-2023 10:10 AM

how do you guys get discounts? My telus bill is about 150$ with home phone, tv, and internet

Hondaracer 02-03-2023 10:12 AM

Inv4zns bill is like half of what I pay for basically the same shit.. *sigh

inv4zn 02-03-2023 10:31 AM

I think my discounts are on the extreme side, I've had multiple Telus employees be very surprised when they look into my account.

Essentially it's a combination of signing up for things at the right time, just calling in and asking for discounts, as well as a bit of luck, when our building got fibre installed they were doing the whole door-to-door thing, and the guy went out of his way to make it cheap for me, not sure why lol.

Also, it does help if you stay with them a while, I'm about 5 years on on the same account for home services, and like 15+ for mobile.

mikemhg 02-03-2023 10:54 AM

I'm currently with Rogers for my phone right now, but I'll obviously be moving over to Telus for wireless once I move positions here.

I'd like to leverage all 3 offerings (cable, internet, cell), I have Telus for the first 2 already.

Would it be best to work through you Honda?

Hondaracer 02-03-2023 11:04 AM

I can offer any inside deals we currently have and then all the bundled stuff as well etc.

Not to say it may touch some of these door to door deals but unless you’re having like an event within your building the inside deals are about as good as you can get. Just hit me up whenever you’re looking.

I will also kick back any incentives I get through e-transfer back to anyone. Couldn’t care less about the $30 or $50 it’s just all about metrics now

MarkyMark 02-03-2023 11:59 AM

Can you get deals for people already on Telus cable/Internet but promos are about to expire or do you only do new installs?

To be perfectly honest, they’ve removed all incentive for me to deal with situations like this lol.. new service agreements etc. are nothing for anyone now.

I’d say the best case if you’re an existing customer is to call retentions as mentioned above and deal with them, threaten to cancel etc.

dachinesedude 02-04-2023 09:45 AM

Novus just installed fibre in our building, anyone using them? How's the reliability?

Hondaracer 02-04-2023 11:18 AM

Their backbone is good, usually Motorola etc.

Their hardware sucks though, the router they give you is garbage

quasi 02-04-2023 03:28 PM

I had shaw call me yesterday offering the 1.5 Gig internet and TV package for $146 plus tax if I reknew my contract. She told me my contract was about to be up but the lie detector test determined that was a lie, it's not up for another 4 months.

I don't think it's a bad deal I just hate the high pressure sales bullshit, you better reknew or your rates are going up, this is a limited time offer, oh it might not be available next week.

I told her to let me think about it, call me back next week if it's available it is if it isn't it's not DGAF.

Probably worth it just to get the newer modem and cable boxes, I'm not on Blue Curve yet and I have the old modem.

My telus TV/internet bundle deal expired this month and I totally forgot until I saw my bill last night was $50 higher.

Do you by chance have a direct number for telus retentions? Then I don't have to go through the maze to speak to the right person?

Honda might have a direct number, but last time I called regular line and said I want to extend discounts, please transfer me to loyalty, and they did it right away. No callback option from Loyalty though, so had to wait 40 minutes lol

Did you have any problems with them extending the discounts?

None. I said "Hey, my discounts are running out, and a salesguy told me I can just call and get them extended, can you help?"

The guy said he'd see if he can save me more money, but came back and said there were no new deals, and that he'd extend everything.

I only have numbers I can call that get directed based on my number

I think it’s best to just call the regular service line and just say cancel account, or threaten it, etc. to get to retentions if there’s any resistance

My contract was ending with telus next month. I was getting 1 gig fibre on a 2 year agreement for $89.99 as I'm also koodo customer. Called loyalty today and spoke to them, let them know that I was seeing people renewing for 2 years at $69. I rep couldn't give me $69 but was able to give me $71.

In the same process of trying to renew, wasn't sure what the baseline was that most people are paying now a days for the 1 gig. This definitely helps!

Yeah, I was looking at the telus thread on redflagdeals and saw that existing telus or koodo mobility customers were getting lucky at $69 a month

Is there really any advantage to 1 gig vs say 300? I'm not a gamer or anything, so forgive me if this is a dumb question but I've always found 300 to be more than fast enough for streaming and web. Just wondering if I should go for a gig or not.
