final shaw deal

Internet 300
Small TV (with 5 theme packs)

$109/mo taxes included on 2 year term.

Hondaracer 12-27-2019 08:56 AM

Is “small” TV still with regular set top boxes etc?

Good to see you finally got a good deal lol

GIZZ 12-27-2019 09:02 AM

Telus installed fibre optic in my neighbourhood, they were converting the neighbours over to Telus. They finally offered me a $300 credit, $110 a month for tv, cable and phone but they wanted $5 extra for each wired box. I did not want the wireless boxes. So add up all the boxes and the complexity of my house and garage setup it was not worth switching to Telus.

I got a hold of shaw retention, they dropped it from $206.64 + taxes to $100 + taxes for a 2 year contract. Plus they gave me 2 months free to resign for 2 years.

Internet 300
Medium TV Pick 7, with 3 gateway boxes and 2 cable boxes
Personal Phone and Call Waiting
$100 + $10.39 in taxes
Total Current Charges $110.39

damn. thats a good deal.
when did you sign?

Eff-1 12-27-2019 02:54 PM

Sorry to bring this back up again, but I wanted to double check: is going with the TELUS new home policy on a 2 year contract (1st year free) pretty much better than any other deal out there? Or is it still worth spending time shopping around? I can't imagine any other company beating that type of package, but I've been wrong before haha.

How did you get thisss. Lol

fliptuner 01-06-2020 05:30 PM

Speedtest your Shaw at 8pm. What is it? Lol

Okay sure.

I do get disconnected alot with shaw internet. I get dropped connections 2 or 3 times a day. Especially during my hardcore Madden 19 battles.

Gonna try Telus. Shaw couldnt offer me anything good.

koukimonst3r 01-06-2020 07:41 PM

I switched to Telus from Shaw due to corporate discounts being cheaper monthly. I was offered Fibre 300/300 and 7 theme packs plus netflix subscription, 2 pvrs and a $400 credit for $120/month plus tax for 2 years.

Shaw called a couple days ago and offered Internet 300, Total tv, 2 blue curve tv pvrs and a $250 credit for $79/month plus tax for the first year and $129/month plus tax for the second year.

Telus definitely was a better deal but if I call Shaw retention after the year is up, it'll be a couple hundred dollars cheaper even with netflix out of my pocket.

Manic! 01-06-2020 09:34 PM

I wonder if Telus and Shaw are trying to get everyone on a contract because Spacex says Starlink satellite-based internet will be available in Canada this year?

They want people on contracts because they are losing money on the 6 month switchers. I wouldn’t go as far as to say they are in cahoots together but from a business perspective it doesn’t make sense to spend $1000-$2000 to do an initial install only to have a customer switch after 6 months and not even recoup the initial install costs.

Perhaps these providers should offer incentives to encourage existing customers to stay without negotiating with retentions. It will always cost more to gain a new customer compared to keeping an existing one happy. Not sure why this industry is so backwards in Canada.

I think it would help a tonne if there was even an ounce of consistency or reliability in their pricing

I work for the telcos and I pay more than most of you guys with these deals :okay:

It's not that we don't want to lock down to a contract, it's the fact these companies are greedy fucks. Even when locked to an agreement say 2 years, you are still subject to the price increases they impose. E.g. During my 2 year contract with Telus, they jacked up the Internet twice on the 2nd year...

fliptuner 01-07-2020 06:03 PM

Did you check what the cancellation cost is, for the second year?

wreck 01-08-2020 02:12 PM

just renewed my shaw bundle.

Internet 300
Total TV
Home Phone w/ Voicemail & Call Waiting
2x bluecurve wireless pvr + bluecruve modem

$115 + tax for 2 years plus he gave me first 2 months free

He said this was absolute rock bottom deal. Not sure how I feel.

DavidNguyen 01-09-2020 05:10 AM

What speeds do you guys get with internet 300?

I get 80-130 for shaw 300. Angers meeeee

fliptuner 01-09-2020 07:31 AM

I have HS75 on Telus. HS300 usually gets 318-322mbps

Hondaracer 01-09-2020 07:42 AM

HS150 for my consistently gets 180-190

The benefit of fiber is you can usually maintain your full speeds even under draw. IE. all your devices are connected to the network, somone is watching youtube etc. and you can run speed tests and still get full speeds, the overhead room on the downstream rates is maintained

Are you hardwired or on WiFi?

I'm on Internet 300 as well and all my hardwired devices consistently max out the connection around at 300-330.

For my laptop, it depends on where I am in the house, but it's usually around 250-300 as well. I have two TP-Link Deco's on opposite corners of the house.

DJ Milk 01-15-2020 01:41 AM

If you're using the SpeedTest.net app on your phone, use the Telus or Telus Mobility servers. I can get between 250-330 using those servers. For me all the other servers maxes out at about 150.

I just did a test right now using Telus Mobility server and got 295 and with the Shaw Communications server I got 160

I have internet 300 with LightSpeed which is using Shaw's infrastructure
