I got a random call from Shaw today. they offered me a good deal, but I didn't accept, as the call didn't feel legit. I called Shaw back a couple hours later and they said they do have a record of somebody from Shaw contacting me from earlier in the day.

now my question is, have you guys ever accepted terms to an agreement via listening to a recording and responding "yes?". I recall a scam going around where the scammers would take your authorized voice and use it for other purposes.

tiger_handheld 01-19-2021 03:14 PM

^ so the whole offer was a recording? no human?

i was speaking with a live agent. she wanted to me to accept the deal by saying "yes," after listening to a recording.

Probably referring to the "outbound" team that was calling. It was likely a person. The recording jnesss is probably talking about is the somewhat recent scam where the other party is recording you say "yes" so that they can use that to approve random things from bank transfer.

Obsideon 01-19-2021 04:13 PM

lol you can say something off the hook like "yaaaaaaaabadadooo"

they play a pre recording of the agreement and u say yes to it, and the live agent comes back on the phone correct?

ive done this many times. its not new, but if u feel at all suspicious i probably wouldnt do it.

I've gone thru the same process recently with Shaw where they play me some terms over the phone and I said "yes". Only difference was that I called Shaw and they didn't call me. I think I'd opt to call in to a Shaw number myself before saying "yes" after a recording. If the deal sounds good and you're interested, you can maybe try calling Shaw back to get the same deal that is maybe in the notes?

jnesss 01-20-2021 01:08 PM

update: same rep called back with a shaw number. contract renewed .

fliptuner 01-21-2021 09:18 AM

Renewed with Telus. Thanks Hondaracer.

HS75 unlimited, Essentials, 7 theme packs, $88.

Yes, the TV adds a lot and HS75 (consistently tests at 85-90mbps) is totally adequate for our needs. I see a lot of people paying more for HS300+ and really don't need it, especially on fibre.

LightKeeper 01-21-2021 09:47 AM

Is it worth it to go non-contract with Shaw or Telus?

GLOW 01-21-2021 09:51 AM

with telus, if you go over your d/l limit, do they automatically charge you, or just send you scary notices?

any way to log in to see which devices consumed the most data? i couldn't find anything in my account showing this.

XplicitLuder 01-29-2021 09:49 PM

if this helps anyone, i renewed my telus about a week ago. my 300/300 for 50$ was ending in february.

ended up getting internet300 + 7 themes 1 premium for 110$ before taxes.

took about 3 diff calls over a week or so. i was just nice and courteous , last agent she was really nice and got me what i wanted

Hondaracer 02-23-2021 08:38 AM

Promo right now for existing internet customers, can add basic PIK TV (app based TV service) for $10 a month and get 5 additional selected channels OR crave. If you have a 4k Apple TV they have a PIK app, otherwise you need to stream or cast from phone/tablet.

If anyone signs up for this and doesn’t have that I could potentially provide one of our hardware boxes to use.

Also, giving away free multicultural packs for new customers for the entirety of the contract so $10 a month value. Chinese, Punjab etc.

Hit me up if interested. There’s also some big promos if you have internet already and add regular Optik TV

so i was an early adopter of fiber in my area with telus, i was told i'd get a "preferred rate" as such, even if telus raises their rates (similar to netflix). now i see my bill is $115 for 150 which is what they advertise on the website for non-contract.

is this how it is now or am i getting hosed here? not sure if i'm wasting time complaining or if i should be shopping pricing for shaw & telus again or not.

ssjGoku69 04-30-2022 02:20 PM

I have internet only with Telus too, but I'm still in the 2 year term.

$100.00 Telus Internet 150
-$10.00 24MO Internet Discount
-$ 5.00 24MO Internet Discount
-$20.00 24MO Unlimited Usage Discount
$ 20.00 Unlimited Internet Usage
----------
$ 85.00 pre-tax

My term is ending near the 2nd of the year, so I plan to wait until there is a black friday/christmas special

one of the main reasons i never sign up with telus contracts is the price is not guranteed. it says so in the contract if you actually read it. they can increase the price when the base price changes - which is annually.

GLOW 04-30-2022 03:02 PM

yes i hate contracts, as i'm in e.van fiber came in to effect years ago and i've been off contract for a couple years...just seeing my 'adjustments' were annoying, but now i see myself as having no benefit of being an early adopter (or even being with telus anymore), so i was wondering if they would even acknowledge that status or treat me as any schmuck that just got off contract.

maybe i'll keep an eye on this thread and wait for some special.

i cut the cable and only have a home phone and internet. i'd cut the line too but i want to make sure there's a phone at home in case the kids ever need to call out for something.

Hondaracer 04-30-2022 03:42 PM

You are paying $115 for 150 down. That seems like a ripoff.

Hondaracer 02-01-2023 10:32 AM

So I’m part of a team doing migrations to Fibre services. If anyone is interested we have an inside promo right now $5 a month home phone with a $15 credit (so free phone for 3 months)

This $5 phone gets you 5000 minutes to China, HK, and India, or 500 to the Philippines. (Don’t ask my why only 500)

I usually wouldn’t care but I’m gunning for a promotion and any referrals look good. Hit me up if interested. No contract cancel the phone portion anytime.

This is for Telus btw

mikemhg 02-02-2023 03:48 PM

^I might hit you up shortly here.

I'm going to be taking a position with Lifeworks/Telus Health in mid/late March. Apparently we get 50% discount on Telus services via being "Telus" employees, however I'd still need to sign up either way.

Not sure if that would still apply to you though?

Hondaracer 02-02-2023 05:22 PM

Yea any discount is like the deal you get + applied discounts after generally

RiceIntegraRS 02-02-2023 06:55 PM

^got any deals for Home Phone and Internet with Telus? My parents promotion is ending on the 17th this month. I kinda hate switching back and forth between telus and shaw for the last 2 decades.
