Typical Telus HS300 on WiFi

GIZZ 01-15-2020 08:14 AM

I have Shaw internet 300, I tried several of their wifi routers and it always was very slow or dropped connections no matter what channel I picked. The Shaw techs would come over and tell me I couldn’t close any interior doors. I switched over to Samsung mesh wifi routers in both my house and shop, I see 325 Mbps regularly. My buddy complained so much Shaw gave him a credit to go and buy his own wireless router. I highly recommend the Samsung mesh routers, I tried orbi too, no comparison.

Im just gonna switch over to telus.
Ill call shaw once more. See what they can offer me. Before i do

Novus Internet 150 and full TV package with 5 bundles... $75 a month bitches!! LOL! Love my Novus!

jing 01-15-2020 02:38 PM

My 1 yr promo with Novus expires at the end of month.

$50 for Internet 100 and basic TV.

The same package is now $55/mo plus a 1 yr agreement. Without an agreement, this bundle is $85/mo.

Telus can't offer anything similar, though the rep wasn't the most helpful, and basically told methat whatever is on the website is the best they can do, though I would get a $10/mo bundle discount for being a Koodo customer, plus a $500 prepaid VISA, which, over a 2 year period, is essentially a $30/mo discount once combined. Cheapest bundle plans are $105/mo or $130/mo before discounts. Nothx.

Guess I'm sticking with Novus!

Nvasion 01-15-2020 05:09 PM

My Shaw 300 is 88.8 download...

Lies. Sometimes if you call again and get a different rep, you get different offers. Some of the surface level reps are plebs and don't have any authority. If you're able to access the "loyalty retention" department (even if you're not an existing customer), you'll at least go to the department with the reps that can bend "rules".

Telus is having a Promo. GIGABIT internet for $85 plus $200 credit if ordered online. Works out to be $76 a month

I testing the wifi. About 375 download and 250 up...slow for Gigabit internet, but better than shaw 300 i was getting

I was getting too many dropped connections with shaw. Hopefully Telus good to meeeee

Hondaracer 02-05-2020 04:52 PM

Remember that a lot of older devices including laptops etc may not have gigbit ethernet adapters.

As well, (and i've researched this to some degree and it appears to have SOME truth to it) even if a PC has a gigbit ethernet adapter, your standard mechanical hard drive may not be able to write data fast enough to show the true speeds, the bottle neck occurs in the pinging or writing of data back and forth between your HD and the ethernet adapter.

It sounds like BS, but from a few different searches it appears to have some validity.

Gigbit ethernet for $85 is crazy though

fliptuner 02-05-2020 06:47 PM

Good deal. Is that on a contract? 1 or 2 year?

I test speeds on new installs, daily. My year old laptop consistently tests 60% of what my phone does, on wifi. The only way to accurately test network speed is wired anyways.

With Telus fibre, you'll find the speeds are consistent, all day. I've seen Shaw 300 at 20, during peak usage times.

24 month contract. If canceled earlier. $10 multiply by how many months remaining.

I called shaw twice to try and get internet 300 for $50. Failed both time and Telus just happend to have this Promo. So i jumped on it.

Gigbit ethernet for $85 is crazy though

He said he's on wifi, so pretty much guaranteed it's way slower than a Gigabit if it's an internal wifi adapter. Even most modern gaming laptops have 2x2 wireless AC adapters (867 Mbps theoretical peak).

thats cuz your router is shit.

i have 750/750 and i can get the same speeds. as my router is shit too.

but my friend can get much higher speeds. he has some crazy router that costs 4x as much as mine though LOL

plugged into the wall i can get full speeds no problem.

Hondaracer 02-06-2020 09:19 AM

In 3+ years of working at TELUS I’ve only ever seen one router better than the Arris one we provide in terms of wifi strength etc.

That router costs $680 and the woman bought it to get wifi to her garden in the back

Try out the new Arcadyans

The arcadyans seem weaker overall despite the additional antennas I’ve found but acting as the first boost unit is a huge plus

Are you guys paying shaw 91$ for "internet 75" and have you guys heard of the company TekSavvy?

DavidNguyen 02-29-2020 06:03 AM

I recently signed with Telus Gigabit internet for $85 ‐ $10 (for Being a Koodo customer)

GLOW 02-29-2020 07:02 AM

how the hell are you guys getting such high wifi speeds. i have optic 150 and i get d/l speeds of like 30. is my house made of lead or my devices so aged i can't reach those speeds b/c they're from a time long lost?

telus sent me a "free" wifi booster, don't think it will help with speeds, just range...

Im not sure what you know about signals/internet etc...i dont know much either. I do know on WiFi. You will never get the speeds you purchased. Now if you plug the moden into the device your using. You "should" get the 150.

Heres an example. I got Gigabit internet.
I live in a 1960's house

On my Samsung s8+ wifi. I get 385 down/300 up
On my 2007 laptop. I get 50 down/??? Up

If you live in coquitlam. People there complain about not being able to get fast speeds with telus. So they goto shaw or other places

I hope your not paying a lot for those speed those.

fliptuner 02-29-2020 09:06 AM

He's on fibre, so he should be getting speeds as advertised.

What I posted at the top of the page is from my phone, directly in front of the modem. There are many reasons why WiFi signal is slower, hence, testing should be done, wired.

Check your hardwired speeds

Jmac 02-29-2020 09:55 AM

Also check to make sure you're not using TKIP encryption, which is limited to 54.4 Mbps. You should be using AES.
