yep. i know i'm at 150+ hardwired in, they showed me. it's just that my laptop disconnected using wifi right next to the modem would post said shitty speeds.

I was wondering if there was a particular reason, or if there's a point to having 150 if i'm never going to use it or realize these speeds.

DavidNguyen 03-01-2020 08:19 PM

@GLOW why dont you switch providers?

If you switch to shaw. You got up to 10 days to cancel without any penalties.

fliptuner 03-01-2020 10:13 PM

Then it's either a modem issue or your laptops sucks lol.

How is it on your cell?

HonestTea 03-11-2020 03:33 PM

Currently with Shaw and looking for offers, whats the best deal with Telus now?

Jmac 03-11-2020 06:05 PM

I get 960 Mbps wired, 500 Mbps on wireless from the modem, and 240 Mbps through the range extender using Telus Gigabit, T3200 modem, DAP-1720 extender, and USB-AC56 WIFI adapter

on my epic iphone 6:

122 dl
54 up

i guess not too bad...but even my phone is old :lawl:

:okay:

i left shaw b/c they were crooks...but telus are crooks too...might try an obsure 3rd party that piggy backs off one of their networks when i get fed up

Hondaracer 03-12-2020 08:00 PM

Go with another crook with no service but slightly lower prices lol

Not sure if it’s still on but TELUS was giving out any speed between 150 and gigabit for $85 a month. Might be over now though

Any Shaw technicians here? Purchasing a home with multiple buildings. I just have a few questions. Thanks!

Not a Shaw tech but I’ve called and had them over too many times, they aren’t much help. I have over 300’ between buildings and maybe another 80’ to the boxes. They tried to sell me another account.

I have coaxial cable and 2 phone lines underground between buildings.

For internet I put rj45 connectors on the phone cable and it worked but dropped connection daily until I added a switch on both ends of the cable. Rock solid internet and fast.

For cable tv at that length, it wasn’t a very stable connection. I replaced many cable end fittings and it’s great now. I’m using older non blue sky pvr and it works fine between buildings.

Hondaracer 07-09-2020 02:12 PM

Kinda the problem with coax lines is the degradation of signal at those distances. Not to mention the distance from wherever your node is to the nib at the house

Any one use teksavvy internet and how's was your experiences?
$65 150 download and 15upload is pretty good.
Are they reliable like Shaw?

For 25$ more a month you can go Telus lol and never worry about quality.
150/150 for 90$

Hondaracer 07-31-2020 11:21 AM

Telus had gigabit for $85 a month if you have fiber available and are a new customer

Jmac 07-31-2020 12:01 PM

It was $75/month. I got it, had a ton of credits, too, so I didn’t pay anything for the first 4 months.

ilovebacon 08-01-2020 12:07 AM

I'm paying 90$ with shaw for internet 75. Made my decision for 90$ for 150mb with Telus.

Razor Ramon HG 08-05-2020 07:56 PM

Anyone with Shaw getting actual gigabit speeds?

Mine seems to hover around 325-350Mbps down, while hitting the max advertised upload speed of 25Mbps.

Wonder if it's just an issue with capacity in the area since Shaw is FTTN or if it's my modem.

The support rep said that my modem is provisioned for gigabit.

EDIT: Turns out it's my TP-Link Deco M4. Not sure what about it.

Dang eh just off the phone with Telus

Got the $85 for gig and 50$ bill credit

syee 09-04-2020 09:06 PM

Bumping this as my Shaw account is up for renewal. Has anyone seen any decent deals lately?

I'm currently paying $136/mo taxes in for:
Internet 600
Small TV Pick 5
Cantonese Channels + Fairchild HD
2 TV receivers
Landline with voicemail and call waiting

They're offering me $160 for the same thing as a renewal so starting to look elsewhere.

GLOW 10-04-2020 08:11 PM

bump any deals going on? reached full entertainment value dealing with telus...

i have 150/basic tv/phone but if i switch i'll probably do internet, i seem to only use tv for news these days...

StylinRed 10-04-2020 08:41 PM

I don't even use tv for news

You can stream it all!

Local news cbc n global can be streamed live thru the cbc app and Amazon prime

World news, BBC, France 24, sky news, cnn, al Jazeera, abcnews, Bloomberg, CNA, etc can all be streamed live, most of them thru youtube

syee 10-04-2020 08:52 PM

I feel you just got to play the renewals game with the big 2 to get a deal. Going through first line reps is pretty pointless.

Just to follow up, I ended up getting the same deal as I had last time after renewals came calling. If it wasn't for the parents watching Chinese TV, I probably would have ditched cable and did Internet only as well.

StylinRed 10-04-2020 08:56 PM

iirc Fairchild n talent vision have a streaming option, but didn't look into how it works, mom has a hard enough time with Netflix

Your deal is great think parents are paying $200 now a month for Fibre 750 crave n total tv

They were paying $300 on a grandfathered plan, and I put them on the new plan, the first line Rep was offering me a crappier deal than advertised on their website for $275 a month smh

I should also note, they changed my Pik 5 to Total TV (they called it a loyalty discount), but that really makes virtually no difference to me since the family really only watched the Chinese channels and Sportnet during hockey season.

I only got Internet 600 though - I didn't realize that their Fibre plans offered higher upload speeds otherwise I would have to tried to negotiate that instead of the Internet 600. When I asked afterwards, they quoted $206 for the same thing as i have now but with Fibre 750.

StylinRed 10-04-2020 09:09 PM

Ah ya I think that's the same plan they have advertised online rn that's cool

Oh btw youtube also has livestreams of Chinese news too if anyone cares, tvbs, ccctv, that anti China falunggong one, etc

GLOW 10-05-2020 07:38 AM

i needed chinese in the pack so was suckered in for tv, but i don't need it anymore, so i just cancelled it last night amid my other problems i'm trying to sold. maybe i should just get rid of TV. i think i just got used to the convenience of turning on a tv and switching to the news, when i really should be using android boxes/fire sticks and running said news apps.
