Nope, took the ILX. Taking the Coast Highway was a blast. It's true. LA drivers are just plain nuts.

One evening, two cars blew by me at such high speeds, I couldn't make out what they were. I was cruising at 90 mph and these people easily doubled that.

MG1 04-13-2016 08:42 PM

Belgian Waffle Cookies? Damn........ I need to pay more attention when I'm at TJ.

Durrann 04-13-2016 10:08 PM

Great thread. Now i want to buy all these snacks.

m3thods 04-14-2016 08:14 AM

If you have people over often, I find that this is a great appie to serve at only $5 a box. Comes with 12 servings, but be warned you'll probably need a few boxes because, speaking from experience, you'll probably end up eating the first box yourself.

This makes me want to head to Bellingham this weekend and stock up on all this stuff. I'm a Trader Joe's virgin! :drool

It's weird. The first time the GF brought it up, I wasn't really on board.

However, having been there numerous times now, I see the wrongs of my old ways.

It's a great intro to organic foods.

m3thods 04-14-2016 12:11 PM

It's crazy because for a "boutiquey" store that I perceived it to be, their product/price ratio is through the roof. Some of the things they sell are so good and yet so inexpensive it's mind-bottling.

I always go when in Bellingham. Every time I go I try to pick up something new just to try something new.

Armind 04-14-2016 12:22 PM

Damn hipsters. :troll:

lilaznviper 04-14-2016 12:23 PM

hm.. maybe its time to go down to states for a day trip just for TJ for the first time.

Do they accept visa or just cash/debit like winco?

jlo mein 04-14-2016 12:38 PM

Best stuff I got from Trader Joes is this sweet sriracha bacon jerky. Probably really bad for you, but it tastes damn good. I got a as a gift so I don't know what the value is like, but the package portion is small.

Butter waffle cookies. Love these.

Pretty sure you can get these at Superstore by Presidents Choice for a reasonable price. Exact same shape.

Another thing I tend to get are their boxed soups (though with the new Vitamix at home this is less often), their goat cheese medallions (unbelievably good value considering a log here is north of $10), and this:

I don't think it's a TJ-exclusive, but holy crap add some hint-of-lime tostitos and you have a one-person party! :toot:

murd0c 04-14-2016 05:25 PM

I have the pub cheese horseradish in my fridge, can't wait to try it

6thGear. 04-14-2016 05:29 PM

+1 on their goat cheese

Digitalis 04-14-2016 08:25 PM

Whats the most u guys bought back from TJ? I heard they start making u go inside to pay tax after 200$ per person.

MG1 04-14-2016 08:29 PM

I've never bought more than a hundred bucks worth from TJ, so no idea.

They accept Visa. The place is packed with Canadians on the weekends. If you bring a bag with you, you get to enter for a draw. Not sure how often but it's at every register. Canadians can participate.

While you're down there, check out Jack in her, I mean, the Box. I just buy their two regular tacos for $1.19 (used to be 99 cents, lol). Then head over to McD's for their dollar drink (any size). In Lynden, the McD's, Jack in the Box, and Burger King are all at the same intersection, lol.

There are five Jack locations I go to. There's one in the Birch Bay Mall (on I5), one in Ferndale, one up the street from Fred Meyers, one next to Harbor Freight, and one in Lynden. There might be one or two more further south. Anyway, save your receipt and get code for free tacos on next visit. Details on back of receipt. True frugal Asian stuff, mang.

EDIT: Don't forget to check out Edaleen Dairy. If you can, go to their downtown Lynden location. Like good christians, they don't open on the day of the lord.

Duh! Why didn't I think of making this thread! Good call OP!

I've been going to Trader Joe's since I was a little boy. My grandfather lives in Santa Barbara so a TJ's opened up there when I went down to visit when in the early 90s. It's always been one of my favourite places to get food. Whenever I've stayed in the US I shop exclusively there and am fully satisfied.

My go-to dish over the years is just the best: Trader Joe's Mac & Cheese. Do yourself a favour and stock up.

I've always loved the salads, for a quick healthy snack and can't beat the price. This one is my fave: Chicken, 2 kinds of beets, goat cheese, balsamic.

And these are goddamn addicting. Sea salt and Turbinado sugar dark chocolate almonds. Be warned, you will be addicted.

Love seeing other people's favourites! That's it...I'm going down to stock up.

MG1 04-16-2016 11:54 AM

That reminds me, gotta get dark chocolate covered ginger next time I'm there. Can you tell I like ginger? LOL

It was $5.99 for that pack. Was just there today and picked up a pack. Will give it a try tomorrow to see how it tastes... :P

Check out Boomer's Drive In which is 5 minutes south of TJ. Their waffle fries, deep fried mushrooms, and milkshakes are great! Burgers aren't bad either
