Some people will argue, towel power started with the 1975 Steelers.

That honestly seems like a stretch right now lol

Hansen put up 12 goals, 34 pts in 72 games his first year with the Moose.
Jake looks like he'll struggle getting 10 goals in the A, let alone 30 pts

I'm not sure what his stats project to be over the course of the AHL season but 4 goals, 7 pts in 27 games is utter trash for a touted prospect that played 65 NHL games prior to minors.

highfive 01-18-2017 11:07 AM

^dude, kid is only 20 and season isn't even over yet.

Give him some time at least.

Plus playing well in the AHL is a good step but doesn't mean equal success in the NHL. We should know of all people when we had Linden Vey. haha

Nabatron 01-18-2017 12:07 PM

yeah don't know whats up with Virtanen but he should be putting up at least some points like wtf...I mean I remember when JV played his first couple AHL games when he first got out of junior he was a beast but now....doesn't seem really engaged up in the NHL or AHL.

Nabatron 01-18-2017 12:11 PM

I think what 604 is getting at is he isn't putting up point even in the AHL which is pretty shocking...yeah guys like lindey vey and reid boucher have put up big numbers in the minors but hasn't translated to NHL success. But JV isn't even getting points in the AHL which doesn't translate to success either...

winson604 01-18-2017 12:48 PM

I know points is often looked at an indicator of success but what I want to know is how is he doing with other aspects of his game aside from goals and assists?

His attitude, work ethic, conditioning, defense etc etc

If those are now in check then I'll consider that a step int he right direction but if he hasn't even changed those things then good like JV.

7seven 01-18-2017 01:01 PM

I think there are a few issues to Virtanen. His success in junior was in large part because he was so much bigger & stronger than other teenagers, his hockey IQ was never great from my understanding.

When he started playing against men in the NHL/AHL, he couldn't purely just rely on overpowering/physically dominating opponents anymore, doesn't help he seems to have developed work ethic issues, showing up to camp out of shape and fitness not up to par as described by Travis Green. I think being rushed into the NHL and given a spot so early did more harm than good to him, he seemed to have thought he had arrived, spent more time partying and spending money than putting in work getting in shape and on his on ice skills.

winson604 01-18-2017 01:22 PM

Oh and as for towel power I know the claim is we invented it but I rather not take that claim to fame because it looks weak as shit in our arena with very few people actually waving it around. Even other hockey teams make it look more sick.

this is partially true for someone who doesn't have strong hockey iq. points can still tell a bit, as it can show if hes learning what to do at certain times ie when to shoot or pass.
while green says his work ethic, conditioning and defense are looking good. the lack of anything, especially an assist tells me he still cant read the game good enough offensively past a chl level. which is what we saw last year and start of this year while he was in the nhl

Nabatron 01-18-2017 03:30 PM

he just picked up an assist today lol

At this rate, he might score a whole 15 points by the end of the season

SumAznGuy 01-19-2017 09:57 AM

No point really, just pointing out what Ray Ferraro said.
Still hoping JV works out, but he may be playing injured.

Anyways, latest news. BBC has been recalled and Pedan is being sent back to Utica.

dbaz 01-19-2017 09:58 AM

A Viking clap from all the fans in Rogers Arena would bring in some much needed energy to the atmosphere at the rink. :troll:

-just found out about this kind of clap:

sonick 01-19-2017 10:49 AM
