that concussion protocol call on Raanta was interesting there's already conversation saying that what if players purposely target goalies heads with hits/shots to get them out of the game temporarily to gain an advantage Lundquist was pissed having to come in cold on short notice |
From the Province this morning Lol Gillis still got that fire. TL; DR Gillis told Ed Willes to go fuck himself via text after he criticized MG's regime. Spoiler! |
VIRTANEN SENT TO UTICA |
Canucks winning unwinnable games and doing things that make sense. What the fuck is going on |
The Gillis era (barring the Aquaman influence in the final years) was easily the best management we've had in the past 20 years. I can't speak about the years leading up to the 94 run as I was too young to comprehend it. Since Quinn, we've had: Keenan Burke Nonis Gillis Benning Burke is the only one that even comes close. Keenan and Nonis were unmitigated disasters. Benning is trending in that direction, IMO. |
Burke made some great moves like putting together the deal that got us the twins. I remember Nonis more for trading away picks for rental players. But Nonis also pulled off the Luongo trade. Was Keenan a GM? I don't recall that. Then again, I hated the Messier move and stripping Linden of the C. |
It's fun to wonder if GMMG was still given full autonomy after the 2012 washout in the playoffs. But alas that's not how pro sports works in most cases unfortunately. He was one of few who championed speed and skill like Chicago even when LA/Boston won their cups after 2010. When he was dismissed he seemed to continue to insinuate that he wanted speed/skill while others in the organization wanted size/truculence. Sure he was a dick, especially if you heard his interview with Bmac/Moj on 1040. Sure he was arrogant. But he also knew what a team needed to look like and trend towards to be successful in the NHL. |

Luongo and trading for the 04 3rd round pick which netted us Edler. |
He did sign Kes back from the Flyers offersheet and then re-signed him to a pretty good 3 year contract too His roster moves were ok. His drafting was horrid though. |
so virtanen is in the ahl now. but apparently its only for 2 games then hes back up again. wtf |
more of a wake up call than anything |
i take back what i said about sensible things the losing will come back soon carry on Canucks |
I don't think you can have a perfect score GM. The only issues I have is that basically ever since the drafting of the Sedins, we never seem to be able to develop our next core to support them. Either the drafts picks were traded away or they became nothing. I'm referring to the first rounders and second rounders where they have the highest chance of making it. We drafted who? Nathan Smith, Umberger, Koltsov, Grot, Kesler, Bernier, Schneider, Bourdon (RIP), Raymond, Grabner, White, Ellington, Coho, Sauve, Schroeder, Rodin (still with us), Jensen, Gaunce , Mallet (lol), Horvat, Shinkaruk, 6 players over 13 years. Out of that, only 3 I would consider as core players in Kesler, Schneider, and Horvat. Benning comes in and drafted Virtanen, McCann, Demko, Boeser, Juolevi. It's still too early to tell on Benning picks but hell, it's a lot better than the Burke, Nonis, Gillis era of picks. As long as he stops trading away 2nd rounders and actually draft somebody. Basically our scouting has fucked us big time over the years. Not only that but having ownership who wants to win now (I'd be the same if I'm the owner) and GM trading away picks like candy (not just Benning). We are paying for it today. It's like we we have a big mortgage and spend without saving and we end up biting our own asses years down the road. |

IIRC, Keenan got us Bertuzzi and McCabe for Linden. |

Umberger has almost 800 career games and Raymond is over 500. |

Raymond most likely done as for umberger he is on his last legs... |
