in comparison, Seth Jones just signed a 6 year contract at $5.4 AAV

Staal is a bit of a gamble but if he could be had for a decent cap hit, i think the change in scenery might bring back his game
Backes, because...if Lucic couldn't be had, Backes is the next best thing and has better leadership qualities.

Issue is Backes is hes 32 and has LOTS of miles on his body

staal seems like he is done and just plays for the pay cheque, backes a lot of miles on his body and he is 32...don't mind everyone else but not a fan of helm..

Agreed. UFAs rarely work out (especially with long contracts that extend well past their prime) for teams that aren't playoff contenders.
