completely agree. he was protected by stl d and good back checking, wonder if it will be the same in Calgary.

not saying he's cloutier, but he's that level of a starter

I'm fine with the pick. Benning misses out on the guy he probably wanted (Dubois) so takes the #1 dman in the draft as consolation? :notbad:

Gumby 06-24-2016 08:41 PM

During an interview with Juolevi, they asked him if he followed the Canucks, i.e. Salo and Lumme. He responded with a recap of the play when Salo got hit in the balls, lol!! :lol

Isn't datsyuk technically retired already? The coyotes just acquired his cap hit due to CBA rules, but for all intents and purposes he has retired from the NHL. He wont be getting paid by either detroit or ariz next season. I'm no CBA expert though

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Nj was able to score an extra 3rd rounder dropping down just 1 spot, and it wasn't even in the top 10.

He's announced he's playing in Russia next season. He hasn't retired from the NHL yet.

Surely him returning to Russia can be seen as his retirement from the NHL.

Tyler Benson drafted by the Oilers second round, I'm happy they drafted him since the Canucks didn't have a chance after trading the next pick away

murd0c 06-25-2016 07:03 AM

The Canucks picked William Lockwood in the 3rd round

highfive 06-25-2016 07:21 AM

Jeff Paterson said he was ranked for mid 4th round. Bitchford said its the weisbrod influence. But still these guys continue to bitch and bitch everything Canucks do lol

dbaz 06-25-2016 07:25 AM

i would of taken dineen and abramov before this guy. mckenzie had lockwood him ranked 74th, player similarity would be hansen

Jmac 06-25-2016 07:50 AM

Canucks tied for fewest picks midway through the draft with 2. Toronto has already picked 7 players.

dbaz 06-25-2016 08:16 AM

5th rnd. Cole candella. dman. was ranked around 110 by a lot of scouting agencies
6th rnd Jakob stukel

murd0c 06-25-2016 08:42 AM

Jakob Stukel must be going crazy since he's from Surrey and played for the Giants until he got traded to the Hitmen

dbaz 06-25-2016 08:44 AM

Wonder if they will make van fans happy and draft ty

Jmac 06-25-2016 08:48 AM

Tyler Soy is leaps and bounds better than Ty Ronning.

Jmac 06-25-2016 09:12 AM

Abols? Meh

murd0c 06-25-2016 09:15 AM

he's 6'5" at least

dbaz 06-25-2016 09:21 AM

Slow, not physical if you've watched him in the dub. Decent skill level at least. He turns 21 on January 5th, so they can't put him in the ECHL/AHL next season (would've had to turn 21 prior to January 1st). Maybe he'll go back to Russia? I can see maybe he can turn out like a Grenier. I just don't see a potential homerun out of it.

Brett McKenzie drafted at 194. I remember last year he was penned as one of the top defensive forwards available out of the OHL. Now drafting him as a 19-year-old. Looks like he developed his offensive game last year.

Jmac 06-25-2016 09:26 AM

Rangers draft Ty Ronning

dbaz 06-25-2016 10:12 AM

overall good first round pick. should of taken dineen in the 3rd meh to the rest.

Definitely would've liked us to draft more speed and skill in the later rounds.

We also took too many 19+ year olds who aren't elite junior players, IMO. If they don't have enough skill to dominate their current level, it doesn't give me a lot of confidence that they're going to have a high success rate at the pro level.

dbaz 06-25-2016 11:08 AM

yep. he just drafted low offensive two way players after the first rnd. dineen miss pissed me off. guy has top pairing potential
