BUFFALO, NY – It certainly appears as if the Dan Hamhuis era is over in Vancouver. Canucks President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden all but confirmed that news Saturday at the completion of the second day of National Hockey League draft. Despite repeated suggestions from the hockey club over the past few months that there may be a way to resign Hamhuis, the Canucks have now informed the 33-year-old defenseman to be ready to hit the open market after six successful seasons in his home province |
Edler-Tanev Hutton-Gudbranson Sbisa- Tryamkin, Biega, and Pedan to battle it out for the #6 spot. I find it hard to believe they can't find a spot for Hamhuis on this defense, especially given that Hamhuis has given every indication that he'd be willing to sign for a discount to stay. Assuming we don't acquire anymore dmen, we're going to have at least 3 guys on the backend who handle the puck like it's a hand grenade plus Edler, where you never know if he's going to do something incredible or something incredibly stupid. |
Didn't Traymkin sign a 1 way NHL contract? If so the top 6 is settled. |

I think the top 4 D will be more than adequate. The wildcard will depend on whether Sbisa continues to improve and how Tryamkin will do with an actual NHL training summer in. |

if there's one thing JB can do it's assess talent, so I'm pretty psyched for OJ but if there's another thing JB can do it's getting shafted on trades/contracts, so waiting on Lucic's new deal or trading away our first rounder next year or something :( |

Fuck me, get nothing whatsoever for both Vrbata and Hamhuis... Asset management fail to the absolute maximum |

Laughable, Hamhuis not good enough for the Canucks but Stanley Cup contenders were willing to give up a first round pick as a rental? Management here is a joke with Dim Jim at the helm and Linden is starting to piss me off as well. |

He's just another depreciating asset. The team is in a rebuild mode, we don't need to sign old players. |
I don't have a problem with not re-signing Hamhuis... I have a problem with not moving him when they should have. Same with Vrbata, if they knew Desjardins was going throw him under the proverbial bus never playing him with the Sedins, then they should have told him such in the off season and traded him as a 30 goal scorer before the season started. |

I also like the way Canucks are going with our defense. We won't be a playoff team next season with or without Hamhuis. |
You guys seem to forget that Hamhuis held all the power. If it were easier to move him, he'd be gone. |
