Don't understand this trend of hiring former players for management positions...not everyones a Steve Yzerman

chouchou 04-10-2017 05:32 PM

would sutter even want to come up here?

pastarocket 04-10-2017 05:42 PM

Based on the recent posts about potential coaches, the short list for JB and Linden's upcoming interviews might be pretty short:

Crawford
Gallant

What about Sutter, Lindy Ruff? :considered:

Hitchcock is old as dirt so he does not look a good fit for the team's long term plans for a coach.

68style 04-10-2017 05:46 PM

Ronalds Kenins might get another shot if Crow comes back!!! :troll:

People can change their minds about coaching candidates in an instant.

The insightful comments on this thread about the team's coaching needs puts things in the right perspective about the best coach for this team now.

^true canucks fans. Rebuild vs retool. Tank and winning. Always two opinions lol

um..you do realize most management, front office, coaches, etc are all former players right? Maybe Stevie Y is one of the more prolific hires but he's definitely not the first.

Jmac 04-10-2017 09:32 PM

Yzerman wasn't just some guy who used to play for the team, though.

He was hired in a lower front office position by the Red Wings, spent 5 years with them working his way up, worked for 4 of those 5 years with Hockey Canada, GMed a handful of WHC teams and then the 2010 Olympic team before taking a GM job with Tampa.

He had experience and a resume to back it up.

Linden had fuck all. Sakic had fuck all. Look where their teams are.

I don't know what Blake and Robitaille bring to the table as far as front office experience and success goes.

Ch28 04-10-2017 10:40 PM

One thing people forget is that Stevie Y was basically groomed into the position he is now.

dbaz 04-10-2017 10:42 PM

guessing its gonna be green/gallant.

Hitchcock/sutter don't work for this team

Luc Robitaille deals with business ops rather than hockey ops

Rob Blake has been groomed by the NHL and Hockey Canada in hockey operations

much more of a resume post playing career than Linden and Sakic

What makes people think Hitch would actually want to come coach in Vancouver!? The guy is in the twilight of his career, and is most likely not looking to come to a tire fire. Other than the fact he has stated he wants to coach in western Canada, I highly doubt Hitch is coming to Vancity.

Truthfully, you could deploy a monkey to coach the Canucks for the next 2 years, and it wouldn't change much.

Salty and bitter people at 1040.

originalhypa 04-11-2017 02:28 PM

Speaking of 1040, what happened to bro jake?
He's been gone since Neil Macrae passed.

Jmac 04-11-2017 03:01 PM

In 5 years, they'll be shitting on Bo

Hondaracer 04-11-2017 04:51 PM

1040 fell off so hard i stopped listening months ago.

IMO the layoffs at news papers are a sign of things to come for outlets like sports radio, people are turning more and more to blogs, forums, twitter, etc. for their news and opinion peices.

Hell, i only watched a handfull of games this year but i've all but stopped using twitter as well because i dont care to read more "anaylysts" opinions anymore. I'd rather come here and read a few posts, watch highlights, and form my own opinion then hear the poison out of the mouth of the skeleton Ghallager or Botchford. The sooner people like that are gone the better imo.

68style 04-11-2017 06:12 PM

This thread is my favourite place for hockey talk, you all put the anal in analysis and I love you guys for it <3

Nabatron 04-11-2017 06:37 PM

who cares about bro jake he is fucking terrible on the morning show...all he does is agree with shit and doesn't know sports at all!

Mike Oxbig 04-11-2017 08:58 PM

It doesnt sound like we will do much next season since this years a weak draft

dbaz 04-11-2017 11:59 PM

I really hope the canucks don't win the draft lottery. Fucking Patrick is on his way to being the next Salo, if not worse

HFBoards - View Single Post - Does Nolan Patrick's Injury History Make You Reconsider Drafting Him First Overall?

broken collar bone multiple times
