Matt Sekeres: "Not one team in the bottom four picked in the top 3, I don't know if you believe in conspiracies.."

dbaz 04-29-2017 04:56 PM

I'm ok with mittlestadt, glass or necas. Would be pissed if we pick a dman, huge hole at c. Could see Dallas taking a dman possibly or trading down for the dman

nah 04-29-2017 05:11 PM

Bullshit... so rigged, how these guys with 2, 5 and 8% chance of winning get it?

5. New Jersey Devils, 8.5
13. Philadelphia Flyers, 2.2
8. Dallas Stars, 5.8

They should do it like back in the day for the live televised lottery draw. All the balls in a drum and draw it 1 by 1 live.

The other way is to have the bottom 5 or 10 teams be eligible for the lottery. This would also prevent tanking to win #1.

dbaz 04-29-2017 05:15 PM

Yea so rigged... Clearly Bettman gave NJ 1st so they sign and trade kovie to lv.

TjAlmeida 04-29-2017 05:30 PM

Good, save the luck for next year when there seems to be a solid first overall franchise player.

I don't even care if we take a D man, if we stink long enough maybe Juolevi and whoever we draft this year will be relevant once we start adding some offense since they take so much longer to develop.

pastarocket 04-29-2017 05:58 PM

You know why the draft lottery draw of the balls in the lottery machine is not done on TV? The system is rigged!!!

Linden should have flipped tables at the end of the draft lottery. Then Aquaman yells at Billy Daly "What the fuck man???" :troll:

unless they can be an elite 1d I don't see the point atm. look at the dmen likely on the team for the next 5 years/ on elc still
top 2: tanev, juuolevi
3-4's: hutton, stetcher, brisebois (tryamkin)
5-6/7: subban, mceneny?

compare that to our centers who will likely be on the team within 3 years
2c horvat
3/4c sutter.
4c gaunce

Nabatron 04-29-2017 07:09 PM

if the man you are drafting in the top5 is not an elite franchise dman like doughty, ekblad, karlson ect then don't draft a dman that high.

Canucks need scoring and need a centre to replace hank!

invader 04-29-2017 07:21 PM

The result of this years lottery dictated whether I would be interested in next years team.

Needless to say, my interest level is dropped completely.

Karlsson was a mid-round pick (7th dman selected) that was chosen behind Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Schenn, Myers, and Teubert.

Karlsson wasn't expected to go until late in the 1st round due to his size (5'11" 165) and defensive game.

Unsurprisingly, some weren't impressed with the Karlsson pick.

Note: Don't hire Alfredsson as a scout.

Linden was on Team 1040 after the draft and put the whole conspiracy theory to rest when Matt Sekeres mentioned it.

He said that AQ was actually in the room when the draft balls were being selected. They had to hand in all their phones while the whole process was playing out, so it appears that owners of their teams either have the choice to be there for the whole process or it's mandatory.

Canucks, Red Wings one number off winning NHL Draft Lottery - Sportsnet.ca

murd0c 04-29-2017 09:27 PM

didn't they have that article last year about the Canucks as well?

Infiniti 04-29-2017 10:08 PM

Just our luck..

Canucks last chance of winning the lottery was riding on #11
http://www.canada.com/cms/binary/10195511.jpg

In the lottery for hometown McDavid, the Leafs had the most balls (4) remaining in selecting the 4th ball. If I recall correctly, one of those four balls actually got jammed in the tube before the Oiler's ball was drawn. So I know how it feels to be so close. We got Marner out of it, so that took some of the sting out of it. At least this draft is pretty weak, so you aren't missing out on someone like McDavid.

I read the article, that is so complicated! From article:

For those not familiar with how the lottery works, each team is assigned a certain amount of random four-number combinations. The lottery machine spits out four numbers that are then matched with the random combinations to determine which team picks first overall. The same process is then repeated to determine who picks second and third.

The winning combination for the New Jersey Devils proved to be 1, 5, 6, 12. The Canucks and Red Wings had the first three, but that wasn't enough to win.

Poor Capitals... Looks like they're going to choke again.

slicrick 04-29-2017 11:04 PM

What's worse? Jets jumping from 6 to 2 (Laine) in such an great draft year, or Philly jumping from 13 to 2 in what appears to be a lesser draft although they should still get a great player there.

Poor Ovechkin - every time the league hypes up the 8 vs 87 battle, Ovechkin often comes out on the losing end. I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing through an injury though, especially after that Kadri hit.

6o4__boi 04-29-2017 11:18 PM

Man...felt it coming but it still felt like a kick in the gut.
This franchise just can't catch a break
