Tim Budong 05-30-2017 02:32 AM

good 20min look at PK

6o4__boi 05-30-2017 08:10 AM

Drew Shore signed back to the Swiss league

Perfect, one less plug occupying the roster.

cdizzle_996 05-30-2017 10:38 PM

Markstrom is almost 30. Start him next year and let him ride out funks.
The concept of having Miller as a mentor is full of shit. Back up goalies can be had for next to nothing. Miller deserves better than to be on a rebuilding team.

Nabatron 05-31-2017 08:24 AM

isn't markstrom 27?

6o4__boi 05-31-2017 08:26 AM

yah...close enough lol
either way he's a little too old to be treated like he needs a mentor or sheltered starts

get him out there and let play himself into the number 1 role
this whole pursuing of Miller makes no sense to me, the cap space spent there could be better used somewhere else

Nabatron 05-31-2017 09:37 AM

^exactly he needs to fucking play don't know what this management is doing with him. Its not like the team is contending of the cup so just play him.

6o4__boi 05-31-2017 09:44 AM

Looks like CBJ is giving up the 2nd round pick for Torts hiring this year.

highfive 05-31-2017 09:58 AM

Apparently vegas is getting 1st rounders for taking on bad contracts. Jmac is right. Cancusk should look into that option.

Liquid_o2 05-31-2017 10:03 AM

Linden says they are finally rebuilding... Benning says he wants to stay competitive. How can a 27 year old goalie who will be making over 3 million a year for a rebuilding team not be a starter?? These guys aren't on the same page at all.

originalhypa 05-31-2017 10:09 AM

I honestly can't see Markstrom as our future starter. He's inconsistent at best, and lacks the skills to be a top guy. In FLA he was a 3.20GAA tendy with a sub .900 save %. In Vancouver his numbers got a little better with a .911 sv% and a 2.90GAA. Compare that to Elite goalies like Price who carries a 2.40GAA and a .920% over 500 games, or Holtby with a 2.31 and a .922 over 300 games and he's not going to do anything here. Hell, even Matt Murray has a 2.32GAA and a .925sv% with the same number of games played. That's a kid with potential. Making Markstrom our starter will put us in an even worse position than we were last season.

6o4__boi 05-31-2017 10:23 AM

even with Miller the numbers weren't any better
iirc Canucks were still 28/29th in GA

we don't care if Markstrom isn't an elite goaltender, we just need him to be a pedestrian starter on a rebuilding team, hopefully long enough for Demko to pan out

Liquid_o2 05-31-2017 10:29 AM

Exactly. Markstrom is a 3 year stopgap until Demko is ready for prime time. He doesn't have to be a Price or Murray, just a good goaltender that keeps his team in games most nights. If he can play 50 games next year and end up with a .910 save % I would be happy.

They should've been doing that since last season. It's really crazy how armchair GMs "get it" but the actual organization seems to be on a completely different spectrum.

highfive 05-31-2017 01:36 PM

lol armchairs Gm forgot that Canucks has too many bad contracts on the team.

Dorsett, Sbisa, Gudranson ( he can play to a good one imo), Sutter

6o4__boi 05-31-2017 01:56 PM

Sbisa - $3.6M Cap hit through to the end of the 2018
Gud - currently RFA
Sutter - $4.375 until 2021
Dorsett - $2.65 until 2019

Doesn't look that bad to me
Sutter's probably the worse one of all those right now. Re-signing Bo will probably be $5M-6M so there's definitely some room to eat a bad contract. Hell, i'd bet teams would be more than happy to eat Dorsett's contract in exchange for one of their shit ones.

So some armchair gm's are on the mark.

Kings have a lot of shit contracts. But at least they got a couple of cups out of it.
:okay:

Ch28 05-31-2017 01:58 PM

Sutter is the worst contract on the team. I still have no idea how the fuck the Canucks signed him to an extension before he even played a game as a Vancouver Canuck. Fucking imbeciles.

Sbisa's contract is a little high, but he has been steadily improving over the past little while, and Dorsett's contract is manageable being under 3 mill.

Nabatron 05-31-2017 03:05 PM

^they were worried I guess if he was going to not sign here after his contract ended lol should have just let him play it out and see kind of thing

Gumby 05-31-2017 03:26 PM

Armchair GMs don't have meddling owners telling them what to do...

Jmac 05-31-2017 03:49 PM

Sbisa has improved from out-of-control tire fire to controlled dumpster fire. He doesn't do a lot of the blatantly cringeworthy stuff anymore, but he still brings down the play of anyone he plays with because of his poor reads (Tanev being the unfortunate victim this past season). If I were religious, I'd be praying for Vegas to take him.

Sutter is a $3M 3rd line centre with a $4.375M long-term NTC contract who has been miscast by coaching as a top 6 forward. Another brutal miscalculation by management.

Dorsett, well, this is why you don't sign bottom 6 grinders to long-term, multimillion dollar extensions. Their bodies break down in their late-20s/early-30s more often than not.

Gudbranson, it's hard to make a judgment on him at this point because he was only healthy for a month and played injured for another month and a half before being shut down for surgery. By all accounts, he played pretty well as a top 4 dman in Florida the year before. I'd say it's a safe bet that anything in excess of $4.5M/year is overpayment and I'd argue $3.5-$4.0M/year is probably about right.

highfive 05-31-2017 04:54 PM

I would even include Edler in there as a bad contract. Guy needs to play like he did in the world championship to be worth that kind of money.

How can I forget Eriksson. lol

Obsideon 05-31-2017 06:39 PM

Wow from 1-1 to 5-1 in a blink of an eye

HonestTea 05-31-2017 06:41 PM

Preds just got lit up

pastarocket 05-31-2017 08:29 PM

PK guarantees that the Preds are gonna win game 3. :considered:

Bold words from the brother. Can he and his team mates back up those words?
