Anyone know if the places offering the iPhone 8 on the $85 upgrade plans will let new customers in on it?

AzNightmare 12-15-2017 08:10 AM

Not really happy with Fido.
Remember last year when Public Mobile had this sweet deal, and Fido and Rogers were trying to match. $40/4gb. My wife missed out on the PM deal so she went with Fido. Then not even a year later, they bait and switch and bumped up the price already.

MarkyMark 12-15-2017 08:51 AM

Koodo is offering the same 10gb deal as well. Wouldn't be surprised if Telus does next. Rogers deal looks kinda shitty now since half your data expires after two years.

ForbiddenX 12-15-2017 09:15 AM

I typically don't buy a phone on contract these days but the Pixel 2 128GB with the 10GB plan seems really good? Less than retail and it's not a shitty plan I have to lock into.

Currently on the $48 5GB plan

I just did the same this year after carrying 2 phones for the past 10 years.

However, I still kept my personal SIM active as it's only $20/month and includes unlimited data, so I'm going to hold on to it for a while...

I'm with Fido and it's bullshit. Seems that the $60 deal is only for new activation's. If you are an existing customer you have to upgrade your phone and go on a $85 a month plan.

I'm paying $50 a month now with only 1gb of data... but don't need a phone upgrade.

If you don't mind switching from Fido, you should be able to port into any other carrier offering the 10GB for $60

Bell is matching it apparently... they might have more scruples than Rogers/Fido do.

F--K Rogers/Fido

This is not even a deal.
5GB will expirein 2 years
They will jack up their price in 1 year. (You witness it from $40/4GB plan last year)

Go with other provider

Friend that works at koodoo says the deal is permanent, no changes after a period of time. Also offering -$10 for the first year.

But then would have to purchase a new phone, as my current one is locked to Fido?

MarkyMark 12-15-2017 10:02 AM

From the sounds of it only Koodo is offering 10gb that doesn't expire, Rogers and Bell is 5+5. Telus has their plan coming tomorrow but I'm not sure if it's 10 or 5+5.

Get it unlocked, Fido has to give you the code by law now.

Curious, for people who got the $40 plan last year how much is it now?

It's now $45 per month for the 4GB plan

MarkyMark 12-15-2017 10:45 AM

Koodo could jack the price up $15 to what my current Rogers plan is now and it would still be better.

Nlkko 12-15-2017 10:49 AM

If I'm a current Bell customer with a few months left on contract, you think I can call in and get this deal?

They actually secretly bumped the price up to $50 on my wife in Sept. We weren't paying attention until last month and noticed it. So we called in to complain and now they knocked it down to $45...

i'm close to doing this as well -- good idea of just keeping it active though. i'm literally wasting money every month carrying around my personal phone that I rarely use.

Can I guess that I can't combine the Koodo deal with a 0 dollar Pixel 2?

Hmm yea doesn't look like it. I didn't realize it was BYOP.

Best is probably to do 2 lines, one with this plan, the other to cancel right away to get it the Pixel 2 for just $504

Okay lots of information floating about.. let me clarify the details.

I was a 10 year Rogers Customer on their corporate 350 plan 5gb for 50 bucks flat. Been on this plan for 6 years now never had a price bump or never had any issues.

I just went to Bell, got myself the S8+ (plus) 64gb in black, paid ZERO dollars and am enrolled in a 85 dollar per month plan. The plan includes 10gbs and unlimited everything else including Canada Wide calling on their fastest network LTE.

I paid zero dollars because I traded in my S7. Had I kept the S7 I would of gotten the exact same plan above 10gb for only 60 dollars per month. There is no expiration or end date for this plan its continuous.

I am paying an additional 25 bucks (totaling 85 per month) because I wanted the hardware s8+. This hardware = I am bound to a 2 year contract.

If you went without the hardware and did 60 bucks per month (bring your own device then its NO contract).

After my 2 year contract, unfortunately I still pay 85 per month. It will NOT drop down to 60 per month. But I will probably renegotiate my contract at that time.

So if you have your own device it's better to get the 60 per month because it remains 60.

If you go with Rogers or Fido you can get the same 60/month for 10 gig. However you only get 10gig for 2 years. After 2 years you still pay 60/month but you only get 5gbs.

So today I walked out paying zero dollars upfront, got an s8+, paying 85/month for 10gigs indefinitely. Hope that helps.

Edit: the Manager said this deal was not advertised, effective today, and is on for 48 hours, to his knowledge. Just relaying what he told me.

I had the opposite problem of only using my only personal phone and rarely my work phone other than for work emails.

Anyways, what I ended up doing was call-forwarding my personal line to my work line, use a SMS forwarder app and then used my personal number for my whatsapp installed on my work phone

With the sms forwarded, you can still get the SMS validation codes that whatsapp/google/fb sends you for 2-factor authentication

But you will need a spare phone plugged in 24/7 for that sms forwarder to work

I'm hearing that it's theoretically possible to get a Pixel 2 with Rogers' 5+5 plan from a friend, but then again it's sort of a worse deal by comparison. However, the thought of a new phone is attractive.

nsmb 12-15-2017 02:25 PM

i got the gs8+ at the samsung store in richmond for $250, no trade in, on the $85 plan. good deal IMO
