Answering my own question: you can.

I bought out the contract for both me and my wife (still cheaper in a few months) and got both devices on the promo deal. Confirmed 10GB is permanent and not restricted by 2 years period.

Rogers is offering the following plans for pre paid chatr and rogers customers. Was looking to get my step son on the 4gig $40 plan.

- $20 No Data UNL Canada wide talk and text
- $40 4gb UNL Canada wide talk and text
- $50 6gb UNL Canada wide talk and text

Looking at what people who currently have it are saying, they bumped it up to $45, they'll probably do it again right?

Edison_Chen 12-15-2017 10:58 PM

I called Rogers around noon today to get my Rogers plan upgraded to the promo one. The initial rep said they couldn’t match it because it was for new activations only. She said they could only offer 4 GB share data share everything plan over $100 and I politely said no. I told her a few companies were doing the Promo and I would leave a Rogers for them. They transferred me up to Customer Relations and I told that person the same story. She ended up matching the $60 promo.

From start to finish it took about 55 minute (from the customer service rep to customer the relations to getting it setup in their system.

tiger_handheld 12-15-2017 11:11 PM

can they increase the price on these plans after say 1-2 years?

like that $40 4gb plan? it's now $45 for 4gb after a price increase.

bigzz786786 12-16-2017 08:58 AM

^i was on the 40 dollar plan for 4gb on virgin mobile. Never went up in price. I switched to the 10gb plan last night over the phone. I confirmed with them thats its the exact same thing as the 40 for 4gb except this time its canada wide calling vs province wide before. The plan's price and 10gb will never go away as long as you personally dont make changes to your plan.

Bell and Virgin are offering this as perminent 10gb and they both say that the plan price will not go up unless you personally make changes to your plan. Now by changes i mean adding or removing features to alter your monthly payments. It wont be affected if you make changes like adding a line or removing a line under your account or changing your address.

I can vouch for that because the 40 for 4gb, i removed my second line which had the additional 10%off and i changed my address, all the while still only paying 40 for 4gb

Just got word that Fido is now matching the no expiry on the 10gig plan

MarkyMark 12-16-2017 09:44 AM

Switched to Telus this morning after 13 years with Rogers. From what I've read it's less likely that they'll raise the rates after a year like Rogers does.

wreck 12-16-2017 10:28 AM

just spoke to a rogers rep.

i'm currently on a 90$ per month plan (7gb, unlimited everything), month to month with a ip7.

he said i can switch to the new $60 plan no problem, but instead recommended i switch to the new $85 plan (exact same as the $60plan) because the $85 is a "premium" plan and allows a $550 upgrade discount on a new phone whereas the $60 plan offers 0 discount.

if i go with the $60 plan, and decide to upgrade my phone within the next 2 years, i'd have to switch to a newer plan in order to get a hardware discount (which at that point, both the new $60 and $85 plan will be gone, and a similar plan to those would be ~$130). However with Shaw bringing competition to the market, maybe in a year from now that similar $130 plan will only be $80-100.

something to think about for those considering upgrading their phone in the near future..

Fcukedd 12-16-2017 10:32 AM

^ Or buy the phone outright in the future so you keep your $60 plan

Nabatron 12-16-2017 10:32 AM

heard from my buddy who works at mobile shop is rogers and fido changing the $60 plan to be permanent and not change after 2 years like they said before

Ludepower 12-16-2017 10:42 AM

Avoid the "subsidy" phone contract trap. You're paying for it in the end anyways.
Having you own device gives you more leverage negotiating and the versatility to switch carriers instantly.

2 year no expiry isnt a big deal. You can renegotiate when the time comes since your not bound by any contract.
And who knows...in 2 years 100gb or unlimited data will become the standard. These crooked telecom companies are the ones throttling the future.

Gh0stRider 12-16-2017 11:19 AM

now that all are offering permanent 10gb, who to switch to? or stay with fido?

cdizzle_996 12-16-2017 11:19 AM

Took me $10 mins via Chat last night to get the $60 promo with rogers. Was previously on a Share everything with 10GB for $120.

Tried to lure me into the $85/month + $329 for an IPhone 8 so essentially paying $900 for it..

Thanks to the OP for posting this.

CorneringArtist 12-16-2017 11:44 AM

Going with Telus as I've heard that Rogers/Fido love to jack up prices on people. 85 for the deal with a Pixel 2.

I don't trust Rogers, my last Rogers plan was $60 for 6GB and they raise it to over $80 over the course of a year.

They just said there was nothing they could do.

I would go Telus or Koodo.

Rogers, Fido, and Virgin all have history of offering a deal and then jacking up the price afterwards.

How do you access Rogers Live chat? lol

I keep digging around and see them talking about contacting us and even the chat hours but there's no way to actually activate a chat?

Nabatron 12-16-2017 02:12 PM

Yea, now that Rogers has changed it to 10gb forever and also to existing customers there's no point in my holding onto my Corp 350 plan. No brainer now but volume is high I can't even change my plan online because the changing plan page just keep loading and loading.

That really depends on where you're coming from. If you're currently on like some shitty $60 with 1 or 2 gig, then signing up for the subsidy is worth it. You pay no more or less and you get a device free.

I'm speaking about Freedom in particular. Pretty insane deals going on right now. However, I'm skeptical about their reception.

It's called Wi-Fi.

TypeRNammer 12-16-2017 03:14 PM

Switched one of my lines over to the Koodo 10gb, coming from the $48 5gb SK plan.
Took about 2.5 hours of wait time on the phone

My original line still has an outstanding tab on it. Keeping it as is $55 + $21 8gb Quebec plan.
