Does she have a house here? Let's make sure we charge her the empty home tax

Mr.HappySilp 12-06-2018 06:12 PM

On a more serious note since both US and China wants her we should use this as a chance to see if we can get a better trade deal with either country and just hand her over to whoever give us better trade deals.

Is such a great chance for us to finally get an upper hand.

Tim Budong 12-06-2018 06:40 PM

It's her way or the Huawei ..

If China or the US have such an opportunity like we do now they would certainly use it. So why shouldn't we? Beside is not like Wanzhou Meng will face firing squad even if we hand over to China or US.

If Canada still cares to maintain a shred of semblance of operating under the rule of law, the only option available is to send Ms Meng down to the US. Canada has signed bilateral extradition treaties with the US. We cannot avoid handing her over to the US, now that she is caught.

And I am not even taking into consideration that we (ie. Canada) share the longest unguarded land border in the world with the US. And you want to piss off our next door neighbour and largest trading partner over something as insignificant (to Canada) as this?

to be fair, trade regulations is a US embargo, why does another country's enterprise need to follow that? Even if it WAS 'breaking the law' on the embargo, isn't it a ruling against the company? why arrest an individual. Kinda weird.

Unless Canada deems the trade regulations (or embargo as you call it) as something it is fundamentally against, I think we are obligated to comply with the US' request to detain Meng? If the person is wanted for something that will result in the death penalty or other serious consequences that Canada is very much against, I think Canadian authorities will not hand her over.

The ruling is against the company, but according to the rumour mill (which I will still take with a grain of salt until it gets reported on by a reputable media outlet), there is a signature of Meng on some sort of HSBC documents involving funds transfers with Iran. So if this piece of rumour is true, it totally makes sense that she is the one getting arrested.

But even if that rumour is just an unsubstantiated rumour, the fact that there is recorded evidence of her knowingly acknowledged that Huawei is non-compliant with US regulations against Iran trade deals, I would also think that is enough grounds for the US to want her.

The funniest bit is how the Mainland Chinese online crybaby mob has once again started spewing their usual BS of how they will boycott the offending country whenever the slightest thing agitates their fragile ego.

Morons...

read my previous post
Canada has to uphold a treaty
she is far from the first and certainly not the last

what do you suggest? wait until all the executives come to Canada for a meeting/conference to round them all up?

things are pointing to her leaking information to Iran, and detaining a CEO's daughter/corporate royalty is making a point/example not to fuck with the West
