Interesting, while I don't mind having a player like Ferland, I wonder how we fit everyone in under the cap.

Benning would be a god if he can unload Loui, Tim, or Suter's contacts. Hopefully it will not cost us Jake Virtanin

It's done. 4 years at $3.5M.
It's Benning's last year he's going for broke. Playoffs or bust.

The price is solid assuming it doesn’t have like a full NMC or something (27-year-old power forward coming off of back-to-back 40-point seasons).
I don’t like the timing. Benning has basically backed himself into a corner now if they can’t get Boeser on a bridge deal; he’ll have to unload a contract and Benning doesn’t do well in trades even without pressure on him.

Exactly, Benning is going to have zero leverage now that everyone knows we are against the cap.

I guess Goldobin is not coming back. With the additions of Leivo, Pearson, Miller, and now Ferland over the past 6 months... the forward group is massive. But too many players vying for the same 2nd and 3rd line roles. Benning needs to dump at least 2 forwards to clear up room, let alone cap space.
I agree that he has painted himself into a corner with all his signings. Only a few years ago we were talking about how much cap room we would have in 2019/2020 :/

Those sutter and Erickson deals are back breakers. If we didn’t have those two there could be huge potential for other signings most likely in the D core

Eriksson, Sutter, Virtanen to be traded? | I think I rather Virtanen than Goldobin on the 3rd line, and maybe swap Leivo and Pearson around.
There has to be something going on in the background that we are not privy to.
Benning can't be THAT clueless, or am I giving him too much credit.

Virtanen was a better player than Goldobin last year. Not sure why Goldobin would be in the lineup over Shotgun Jake.

Once Loui’s bonus is paid out on July 15th, he’s owed 9m over the next 3.. shouldn’t be that hard to move.

I would keep sutter. You need centres and never have enough. Imagine if beagle got injured, bo would go back playing more d and matchups and he can’t focus as much on scoring.
I heard baerschti would be traded if anything.

Look how well Toronto did to get out of CAP hell. They have a CAP guru, Laurence Gilman, the same guy that Benning fired. Benning is such an idiot, that he probably doesn't know what 1+2 is. We need this guy fired this year and we can start fresh with a pretty decent core already in place.

Seems like we're always stuck with a revolving door of idiots. | We went from Quinn (good) to Keenan (bad) to Burke (good) to Nonis (bad) to Gillis (good) and now Benning (bad), mainly because of shitty ownership.
Quinn fired for disagreeing with ownership (Gretzky, Messier contracts, not wanting to perform both roles as GM and head coach)
Burke fired* for Bertuzzi incident, playoff record (*didn't have contract renewed)
Gillis fired for disagreeing with ownership (AV firing, Torts hiring, style of play)
Even Linden was "mutually parted ways" because of disagreements with ownership.
Meanwhile, Aquaman continues to be vocally enamoured via social media with Benning and the team's future despite a complete lack of success over the past 4 seasons (only successful season was when the team was still 80% the team he inherited).
To put things into perspective, Gillis had already won 2 Presidents' Trophies, 5 division titles, and had a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals at this point in his tenure ... and would be fired in less than a calendar year. Burke had turned around a dumpster fire franchise absolutely bleeding money into an extremely successful franchise that played an uptempo, exciting style of hockey (in the height of the clutch & grab era) and one of the league's most profitable teams ... and would be fired in less than a calendar year.

I wouldn't really say Burke was good. He pissed away as many 2nd rounders as Benning has.
Aside from the Sedins trade, the best trade he did was for Salo.
Problem is that NHL is still very much either the old boys club or the new "ANALYTICS" crew.
There is no gold standard on how to run a franchise. People go oh look at the Golden Knights! Shit McPhee traded forsberg for erat.
Actually, I feel David Poile is probably my opinion of gold standard but shit they haven't won anything.

Does anyone know if the Canucks are making money with the CAD$ being so low to the USD$ and paying the players in USD$?
