Per CapFriendly, the Canucks have just $5.06 million in cap space with Boeser and Nikolay Goldobin still in need of new deals. Benning said Monday he's not concerned about the cap crunch and noted he has the permission of ownership to demote veterans.

It's the "meat & potatoes" "character" "foundational" guys that he hands out the big money contracts with little-to-no negotiation (e.g. Gudbranson, Sbisa, Dorsett, Sutter, etc.)
I really enjoy missing the playoffs by a mile 4 years in a row and trading away our first round pick to make the best team's cap crunch into our cap crunch.
