well you guys wanted the border closed until 2030

westopher 10-07-2020 07:39 PM

Keep it closed. With this thing I can drive around hitting 7k every shift and never even be speeding. Who needs the track? Everyones just gotta shave off a couple hundred hp.

Everyone making the trek from the mainland to VIMC while I live less than 5 minutes away and have never been

TouringTeg 10-07-2020 08:11 PM

I went to VIMC 3 times this year plus slalom that they just started. $60 and get up to 100km/h or so. It was a blast! Next one is Oct 18th.

Will see if Western Speedway stays or not.

Haha, well said. Me in a nutshell in Hong Kong roads. Got a fitting plate to match. Now if only I can source a nice 660cc 3cylinder 66hp of fury Honda Beat. I'd be hitting 9k everyday!

Spent 5 days driving aimlessly driving through and bumming around the Interior. Slept out of my truck the whole time, one night in freezing temperatures. Cost: about $250 on the trip including gas and food :fuckyea:.

i wish more people would do this ^^ so many take for granted that we live in one of the most spectacular places in the world. People wait their whole lives and spend massive $'s to travel here.

I'm guilty of it myself. despite travelling to the okanagan and cariboo my whole life, I have rarely trekked much further. Would love to spend a summer in a westfalia just wandering BC

trollface 10-08-2020 12:14 PM

How in the world did u spend 5 days driving around in a V6 tacoma and only spend 250 total? Did u drive like 500km?

Most have built the creature comforts so deep into their lives that they can't live with out it.

You just gotta be ok with not knowing where you'll be sleeping that night, when the next shower is or if you're ok jumping into a cold lake and also being well prepared. I have everything I need to be independent on the road - chainsaw + axe for firewood, all cooking necessities + fridge and comfortable sleeping arrangement.

I only drove like 1500km, I can get around 600-700 a tank driving the speed limit.

The fuel/food cost of that trip might be low, but lets be real that's a $$$ setup you've got there.

twitchyzero 10-08-2020 02:32 PM

exactly
that’s the way to go though during a pandemic though

Yes, big up front cost but I've spent about 24 nights so far this year with a few more trips before the end of the year. I was building it for future trips including a 3 week nomad trip this summer through the US ending with Burning Man but then Covid happened.

You don't have to have a brand new truck, but that Tacoma + RTT + RTT rack isn't cheap (albeit compared to what some other people spend it is). Obvs to each their own and if it makes people happy more power to them, I just remember when overlanding was called "camping" and it was $100 worth of stuff from Canadian Tire shoved into the back of whatever vehicle you own. ngl if I had the funds I'd have a nice setup too (though maybe a 4Runner instead of a Taco) but at the end of the day even the guys with $100k setups are still shitting in the woods like the rest of us :lol

Damn mustve been fun. A bunch of people I know from autox/track days went the same weekend. I registered back in the end of August, booked vacation at work, and was told I was waitlisted, never got in. The weather was perfect too. At the prices they had it at it was a no brainer for anyone

LOVE the idea of driving around camping

NOT loving the idea of spending $80,000+ to do it........

I love the colour of that truck though... and the new lunar rock one too...

twitchyzero 10-08-2020 08:13 PM

with everyone stuck not being able to travel abroad.. hunting, overlanding, fun cars etc. will continue to be even more popular

That actually sounds amazing and frankly I'm jealous. One of my biggest regrets in life after leaving Vancouver is that I wasn't able to explore or just go cross-country in a road trip through provinces or states in US (in a RV that sort). I've spent countless weekends in Vegas, Seattle, and Victoria...

There's just too many priorities and obligations in life now that I don't see me able to be doing that anytime soon FeelsBadMan
