I'm slowly developing a tolerance for alcohol.

Jmac 04-14-2020 07:17 PM

I’m more of a 2-3 drinks a week kind of guy. So far, I’m actually drinking less than usual.

There's a lot of conspiracies, are you sure it's from a bat?

The problem is, they all come from China.

Yes, the Spanish flu did not originate in Spain, but that was also over 100 years ago. We’ve had 3-5 SERIOUS respiratory diseases come out of China in the last 20 years.

Edit* with that said I don’t specifically blame Chinese people, that’s stupid. Like people targeting asians in general over the diseases is absolutely ridiculous. However the Chinese govt. def had a major hand in the current state and Chinese culture was the fire starter.

SkinnyPupp 04-14-2020 09:00 PM

Calling it "China Virus" is so obviously political, it's stupid. I think people who use it, who aren't suffering under China's oppression, are being ignorant. IMO anyone who argues in favour of the name is being disingenuous.

Calling it "Wuhan Virus" is more acceptable, since that's where it originated, and what people called it before it got political.

But still, why not just call it Covid or C19 or whatever? Do we NEED to call it Wuhan virus or anything else when a perfectly acceptable name exists now?

So would you call them all China Virus? Or would that just cause confusion for everyone? People can call it whatever they want. For me, I would rather have a scientific name that differentiates them. I mean most people still call it THE coronavirus.

You can't expect most people to use terms they don't understand. How many people even know Covid-19 = Coronavirus Disease 2019?. They think the disease and the virus are one and the same. The virus is actually called SARS-CoV-2. Similar to HIV = virus, AIDS = disease.

The people who show no symptoms carry the SARS-CoV-2 virus but don't have Covid-19. When they named the disease weeks ago, the news did try to inform people of the differences but gave up and just started calling everything Covid-19.

Hondaracer 04-14-2020 09:10 PM

Covid is fine. Corona is fine.

But this kind of campaign by China to get away from the origin of it is what draws people back around imo.

Agreed. China is trying to distance itself from the fact that they messed up and tried hiding this virus then failed and now its turned into a world pandemic and that "looks bad" upon China.

China virus/Wuhan Virus/Covid whatever.. just stop whatever is creating these viruses (be it eating bats etc)

320icar 04-14-2020 09:57 PM

The more China fights it, the more people will call it the China virus

underscore 04-14-2020 10:31 PM

I believe the technical term you guys are looking for is "the rona"

JSALES 04-14-2020 10:47 PM

I would've preferred to call it the Wuhan virus but since a name is already established, I'll stick with the coronavirus (Covid-19)

Pretty sure they gonna cook that shit. Plus, they ain't gonna store them live in cages stacked around/under 16 other creepy, crawling, species that are dripping their shit on each other (blood, urine, feces, saliva, jizz, tears, etc.).

Also, wouldn't the CDC be all over it and burn 100 square miles in and around ground zero?

Never met a hillbilly, but..................... nuff said.

What 3-5 diseases are you referring to in the past 20 years?

MERS - Middle East
Ebola - Africa
H1n1 Swine - US
SARS - Asia/China

The whole lets call it a China flu is such a political play from the current administration. Hate on Asian Americans has gone up significantly and words do matter. Are we going to start blaming every country on-wards when the next pandemic hits?

Looks like people who earns $1k or less is able to apply for CBRS. More to come for students. So does that mean people who earn $0 is able to apply then coz that's less than $1k. Mind as well just give everyone a cheque...

A brief search brings up numerous smaller outbreaks of similar respiratory diseases than the current corona virus that originate in China. The unfortunately named “Asian Flu” in the 60’s, SARS, H7N9, and now COVID19 all began and spread in China. Many of the other outbreaks that are attributed to other countries have also gained momentum in China due to misdiagnoses under TCM etc.

And yes, I think 100% blame should be felt by the countries where these things originate because it is almost always caused by cultural practices which lead to animal-human transmission.

This hesitance to apply blame is funny. Is this a cultural “saving face” thing? Like seriously, if this shit started in Canada I’d be the first person to say yea, Canada fucked up, what are we doing to have this happen and how are we going to fix it going forward? And I think the govt. would also accept blame and work with others to correct the actions that led to it.

Yet China is standing in the middle of a G7 circle pointing fingers at others saying “No! It was you!!” Lol..

hud 91gt 04-15-2020 07:45 AM

Aw I missed the booze chat.

A scotch a night for me. 1, 2, or 3 fingers? It’s varies. Ha. I found a cheap blended one now that I don’t mind, so cutting expenses. Haha.

Interesting side note, ONE of the possible origins of the Spanish flu is that it came from China, and traveled with the diaspora of asians, who ended up working as service grunts for the allied troops (specifically the us/uk soldiers)

I read a decent amount on the Spanish flu and it’s pretty interesting. Worst time really to have an outbreak as soldiers all return home lol..

Maybe China taking tips from Spain in not wanting to report it and in turn be named after it? :p
