"Americans" in a thread where just yesterday this was happening in Vancouver? FailFish

Beer consumption haven't gone up but weed consumption has. Becoming a nightly thing to wind down before going to sleep.

this would be real bad... but i doubt the Govt will allow this to happen?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Vancouver Aquarium could close for good in two months if it’s unable to secure at least $1 million a month in immediate financial support.

Lasse Gustavsson, CEO of Ocean Wise, which operates the aquarium, said it projects to lose $3.3 million a month after shutting down due to COVID-19.

“For the aquarium and Ocean Wise, the conservation organization, this is a disaster,” he added.

Ocean Wise applied for $9.5 million in emergency funding from the federal government three weeks ago, Gustavsson said, but hasn’t heard back yet.

Ya bud, all of 2 people were out there here in Vancouver.

Big difference between how we look at government here in Canada versus the US.

IMHO, there are a lot more important things to fund than keeping an aquarium "afloat" (pun intended). Keeping animals captive in a man made prison........

And before anyone says it's not all about money. I think the captive animals inside would much rather die in the wild than be spectacles behind glass.......... to die, anyway.

Trying to find a good quote about let me die without chains than live two more years without dignity........... something like that.

EDIT: I take back some of the things I’ve said. I keep mixing up the aquarium and the zoo. Ocean wise does do a good job of taking care of injured animals. Having said that, I don’t agree with the captivity of cetaceans.

Outside apartment building and I saw a face mask on the sidewalk.
What would you guys do?

Well I had my face mask on and gloves and I was throwing out the garbage so I used a tree branch picked it up and threw it in the bag and then right to the dumpster.
That’s the 2nd time I did that in 1 month carefully picking up 3 face masks. 2 were in an area where I’ve seen an outside cat usually frequent. If it wasn’t me, then someone else would do it.

You don’t want pets or other animals to start sniffing a strangers’ used face mask. :heckno:
Or someone stepping on it and tracking potential diseases everywhere..

All things to help flatten the curve. Let’s keep Canada clean!

If protests like this gain more sheep, it's going to make this pandemic last a whole lot longer down south than necessary. They'll easily reach 1mil infected if people keep pounding their chests yelling about freedoms.

I noticed a lot more people wearing masks now, in the same places that only just a few wore a week ago. This will just keep increasing.

I know I'm Mr. Broken Record here, but countries or cities will HAVE TO enforce mask laws in order to prevent huge second and third waves from occurring.

In HK our second wave is ending, just 3-4 cases per day, mostly the travelers who got in before the borders close. I don't expect a big third wave (if any) since like 98% of the population are wearing masks. No, not everyone does it properly, but it's effective.

I see discarded masks often too, usually thrown out of cars. But I see way more discarded cigarette packages and butts, so it's nothing new really...

I saw a pair of used gloves like 2 weeks ago other than that no mask. Maybe coz in Coq a good 80% of people don't wear mask.

Its like blackfriday but instead of electronics, people fighting over toilet paper

Teriyaki 04-15-2020 08:52 PM

There's so much toilet paper where I go for groceries now. I don't get it... You don't shit more when you're at home. There's a limitation to how much the human body can eat and defecate...

spoon.ek9 04-15-2020 09:12 PM

my superstore was completely sold out of TP today. literally not one single package left.

Was at London Drugs Brentwood this evening before they closed. Shelves were half empty of toilet paper. Cascade brand. I've seen other places with product on the shelves. I guess it depends on the store and location. Freshco in Richmond, for example, had zero toilet paper this afternoon.

iambuRnz 04-15-2020 10:01 PM

Costco by production way also has quite a bit of toilet papers in stock now. when we went 2 days ago, there was a lot... and this was at 3 in the afternoon.

Super super long line ups though..

Went to superstore on Sunday first thing and the paper towel tp aisle was 75% stocked of all brands. Charmin, Bounty etc

Also saw a picture of still Creek Costco today hella fucking stocked of Charmin TP and Bounty PT

As for the you don't shit more at home, well you do kind of. Pre covid you would be at home maybe half the time while the other half you're at work, at a restaurant, at a mall, friends house etc. You'll be using the bathroom at these places but now you're more or less only using the bathroom at home so you'll be using TP more. Still doesn't mean you need to hoard but you will be using more.
