last year when I went and checked the masks out they said it was all for props or costumes only.

this looks legit

with that link you sent, I think the Mira Safety CM-6M is legit.. 20-year shelf life. if I can find it locally or if someone knows a good place online to get one..

locally I think Ima go with this if they get more in stock.

I've also been looking in case of a zombie apocalypse. While those probably are good, this is the mask I'm leaning towards, for better visibility:

Don't really believe WHO at this point. They acted late, responded late with warnings(maybe have to do with Chin's grip on them? or they don't want to cause economy unrest?) And they totally bullshit when they ask countries not to close their boarders. And they actually believe China numbers and stats....:rukidding:

So who do you believe then?

I believe the idea behind not closing the border is that if the border is closed, some people will still find ways to sneak in and that's a lot harder to keep track of. With open borders, you could much better track who has been to China recently and quarantine as needed.

Now I am not saying I support or am against it, I am just stating the rationale behind the suggestion.

And who else's number would they publish? I know China's reported numbers are definitely not accurate, but at the same time this is probably the most credible source as far as WHO is concerned since it's still the official numbers reported by the legallt governing body.

It's an unfortunate cycle really.

Chinese gov't has a long history of understating/manipulating data to save face; to a point where some of their critical datas (such as GDP and what not) are taken as reference only and foreign entities who need the true data do estimations via their own methods to achieve a more objective view of real data.

This, in the event of a medical crisis is bad. When the gov't data has no credibility, FUDs fly too easily and CCP has to censor them. And while censoring some FUDs, they also censor some real data, making the gov't data unreliable. And the cycle continues.

They are getting a taste of their own poison... that's why there's a surge now in China asking for freedom of speech... which is part of their constitution... but we all know that's not gonna fly.

I’ve had a bunch of masks on order for at least 3 weeks now, just got an email and they cancelled the order and refunded the money. Guess I’ll die then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That I can agree.

I have a friend who is in Wuhan right now and he tells me that the numbers are definitely worse than the published figures from what he has seen.

WHO/UN is useless because of China's influence

this outbreak is 9000% more effective in shifting the Chinese mindset on CCP's autocracy when compared to the HK protests

Unfortunately, our idiot federal government doesn't seem to understand that. In particular, our federal Health Minister also doesn't seem to understand that.

I think when it comes to something political, WHO will try as hard as they can to accommodate China, because if they don't, they know they'll just get kicked out of the country then we REALLY don't know what's going on.

If it's something like viral mutations, studies on transmission, etc, I think they are the most credible source within China. If it's proven to be spread via aerosol, they'd let us know. Unlike something like "the real death toll", I don't think there's any reason for them not to.

gilly 02-10-2020 03:00 PM

Over 1000 deaths now.

Just now from CNN:

The Hubei health authority reported that 103 more people died of the coronavirus in Hubei province on Monday, raising the death toll in the epidemic's epicenter to 974.

This brings the total number of deaths in mainland China to at least 1,011. Globally, a total of 1,013 people have died, including one death in Hong Kong and one in the Philippines.

Hubei authorities confirmed an additional 2,097 cases of the virus in Hubei on Monday, which brings the total number of cases in the region to 31,728.

More than 25,000 patients have been hospitalized in Hubei, including 1,298 who are in critical condition, according to the health authority. More than two thousand patients have been cured and discharged.

The global number of confirmed coronavirus cases now exceeds 42,500. The vast majority of cases remains in mainland China.

twitchyzero 02-10-2020 06:07 PM

aside from masks/gloves, cars and electronics, anything else expected to climb significantly in price this year from the virus?

Saw this one from Taiwan. Car must have just reeked of alcohol.

After dousing his car in alcohol-based disinfectant, a Taiwanese man failed a breathalyzer test at a DUI checkpoint, local television news reported.

10 days longer than previously thought.

Imagine "if" the virus is mutating. Worse case would be the type where it lays dormant after first affecting (entering) the patient. It seems like it's been cured, but comes back multiple times. Each time more violent and more contagious. Somewhat like chicken pox and shingles. A vaccine is developed, but the virus develops immunity to the anti-virus.

I've been watching too many sci-fi movies. Spores. Like Alien: Covenant. Gas masks, unless you wear the kind that covers the entire head, don't cut it when the spores enter through ears. :troll:
