So an updated list came out today for places that are eligible to get a shot such as food processing plants etc.
Can an employer make it mandatory to have the shot? If they work in such a "high risk" job where the province deems them more necessary and vulnerable than police/firemen should they not have it as a mandatory requirement to make sure the facility continues to run without problems?
No shot, no work?
I don't have any kids but for those here that do is it mandatory for them to have up to date shots before being allowed to enroll in elementary school?

sry that's fucking ridiculous
this is not a camping or some leisurely activity reservation system crashing
it's people trying to get their 90 year old parents vaccinated which was already delayed for a month or longer, that they haven't seen for probably a year
every other health authority booked thousands, but VCH only managed 300ish over one day...good lord

It’s also people who are not even somewhat eligible calling BECUZ IVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH.
The mouth breathers calling in to find a way to jump the queue would have crashed it still if it was prepared for 10x the volume.

Have you ever heard of the Affordable Care Act? A system setup for a country as vast and wealthy as the United States, a system first of its kind to offer insurance to folks who could never attain it previously, crashed the very same day as its launch.
You think a country a fraction of the size and GDP could do better? Have you not followed the reports of the massive influx of calls to book quarantine hotels the first day of its rollout? Same thing, hours long hold times.
It is simply not realistic to expect any system or call center to support that many interactions on launch date.
If you waited a damn year, you can wait a few fucking days.

Not a small company either, been around for over 60 years as a non-profit organization working with people/children with disabilities. Keep in mind, organizations like these already required their staff to be up-to-date on all the regular vaccinations prior to starting their role pre-pandemic.

Honesty kind of a stupid move. You can put pressure on people but making it mandatory is a huge mis-step for any company imo.

Well, if the safety of your clients (who are in a high risk group) is at stake ... I think it is understandable to require your staff to be vaccinated (eg. working in a care home). You discuss these things when you apply and when you sign the contract then you don't have to worry about that when the time comes.
If your office sells software then I don't see the need to insist that all your staff be vaccinated.
Sorry but individual rights sometimes take a back seat to the rights and well being of the society or the demographic that you are serving or catering to. If you don't understand this simple concept, it means that you are thinking like a child or an adolescent.

Don't make it mandatory. Just increase the friction for those without, and incentivize the ones that do.
Weekly check-ins for those that haven't been vaccinated? Daily even? Make life just stupid to the extent of the law.
