The bigger tests for the Canucks are the games this weekend and next week against Winnipeg and Montreal.

I wouldn't mind if Coach Green tells Virtanen that he's a healthy scratch for the entire road trip. :lawl:

Hoglander has outplayed Shotgun Jake by a long stretch.

It's not even close in terms of the rookie's relentless effort compared to Virtanen's play so far this season.

^ that sequence last night from Hoglander when he came out of the box as we were 2 men down, checked a guys stick as he was about to shoot, then dumped him to the ice, then intercepted a pass and shot it down... just incredible constant effort

Who’s the youngest/fewest NHL games Norris trophy winner?

Agreed. Same with the smart play to put himself in a better position, out work the D man for the puck and hit Pearson with the pass.

As well as the prior game with the chip play and chase the puck down and hit Pearson again with that swat pass.

Karlsson

Actually I think it's Bobby Orr. Rookie year. Karlsson is modern times.

hoglander and virtanen have no corrolation ? well depends what you mean i guess but the way you said that it came off as its either virtanen or jake whos in

68style 01-30-2021 12:03 AM

Yah one is LW the other is RW... but I think he means Hoglander is making Virtanen look horrible from an effort / production / smarts perspective... so even though they're not the same position, Green is probably looking at Hoagie and having an even dimmer view of Virtanen than he already had.

If it makes anyone feel better, we love to talk about how we should have picked Nylander instead of Virtanen... or how Pastrnak somehow went 25th in that draft... but the Islanders chose Dal Colle at #5 ahead of Virtanen and he is also a big LW that basically isn't playing anymore haha

I compare the two because Hoglander's IQ and effort level are very, VERY clearly better than everything Virtanen has shown us since his first year. It doesn't bode well for Jake because players who are this good, this fast will push him out of a job (as we saw in the form of a healthy scratch). Basically every drafted Canuck that has joined the team since Jake has already outperformed him. Hoglander just happens to be the latest in that list.
