Hard to say. Bennings contracts are biting us in the ass but man our top guys need to play better. Everyone is playing like shit. Schmidt wasn’t even the guy we saw in the playoffs. Hughes petey Miller.

Only demko and motte is playing as good as last year.

They better have a players only meeting pretty quick cause there season is gonna end pretty fast if they keep this up. Our defence is just tooo slow and it doesnt help Hughes is pinching wayy too much. They are playing like a completely different team from last seasons playoffs.......

Players playing bad? Fire the coach or GM! SwiftRage

Seriously, Toffoli would probably have the same amount of non-Canucks goals if he started the season with the Canucks LUL

Defense is playing really bad. Hughes looks completely lost at times.

Not really racist! 02-04-2021 11:07 PM

Leave Jim alone y'all Kappa

lol, imagine Canucks spending $4.25m on a "dman" that would have prevented 8 goals against Canucks so far this season...

Probably would be the best defenseman on the roster this year.

No, you fire a GM because he’s the second longest tenured GM in franchise history and he’s handcuffed a team that should be contending NOW instead of maybe not contending in 3 years when shit contracts run out. He’s been here for 7 years with almost no semblance of success other than last year which was pretty clearly a flash in the pan.

We should be where the Habs are. Having young players on entry level contracts abs having out bottom 6 making bottom 6 type money, not top line type money lol..

I’m pretty sure on the radio they said Montreal does not have a single forward making more than Erickson makes..

Like the cap management and the current position we are in could potentially make it so we are never contenders. We are 2-4 years behind where we should be with even half-assed management.

They had a story regarding Jay Beagle on one of the stations where Somone phoned his agent and asked him if Jay had any other offers when the Canucks signed him, he said that almost every other offer was for 1 year max abs when they agent told the other teams the Canucks had a 4 year offer every other team basically hung up laughing.

It’s not only that Benning gave out terrible contracts, he gave out term NO ONE ELSE WAS OFFERiNG lol!

Liquid_o2 02-05-2021 04:24 PM

I would say that the Canucks are similar to the Oilers. Some high end talent being wasted by bad contracts. I think the Canucks do have better depth and more higher end talent than the Oilers, but similar situations.

RiceIntegraRS 02-05-2021 05:13 PM

Theres no way were as bad as the Oilers were. There 3 1st Overall draft picks yielded them 0 playoff births. The Canucks looks like they are taking a huge step back this year. But alot of money is coming off the books next year and the year after. Plus the expansion draft can change alot of things. Ive been pro GMJB but his FA signings have been atrocious and I dont believe hes the guy to lead the way anymore. But i dont think aquilini wants to fire him and pay 2 guys to do the job of one.

Don't forget about signing Sutter to that ridiculous contract extension with a NO TRADE CLAUSE before the fucking guy even played a single game for us! A no trade clause for a guy that's cracked 40 points once in his entire career and was only averaging 26 points in his entire career before being traded here.

"I'm comfortable with [the term]," Vancouver general manager Jim Benning told The Province on Tuesday.

Hondaracer 02-05-2021 06:04 PM

The only thing I can give sutter is he typically gives a consistent effort and he’s a fairly rounded vet. With that said, for the price and term you could have cycled through 10 guys by now who could play that role.

not sure if its fair to compare to the habs...they've been pretty much irrelevant up until now...they tried to compete and then set it back and they still dont have a #1 center....GMMB def took advantage of the poor economic situation this year with some good signings and have had some good trades recently but he's wasted prime years of their all star goalie and dman...essentially they NEED to win in the next 2-3 years because Price will be 34 and Weber will be 36 by the start of next season...

Blah_Teggie 02-05-2021 09:48 PM

All you guys calling for Benning's head. Ok, replace him with who? Who's available out there that's an instant upgrade? Chiarelli? Burke? Nonis? Gillis? Chayka? Tallon? I would keep Benning onboard just for his impeccable drafting record alone. Boeser, Petey, Hughes, Hoglander, Podkolzen. 3 straight years with a Calder candidate. Almost unheard of. Could very well be 4 with Hoglander this year. I wouldn't mind firing Green and having Gerard Gallant replace him.

1 would argue that the brains behind the impeccable drafting record was Judd Brackett. But if it was Benning i wouldnt mind him being demoted and in charge of drafting and Gillis being in charge of the rest. Because i think we all remember that drafting was Gillis's weaknesses in his tenure as the Canucks GM

pastarocket 02-06-2021 10:23 AM

I agree with the posts here calling for Benning to be canned. His contract signings do somewhat overshadow his record of draft picks.

Dim Jim is an example of addition with subtraction. Acquiring the useless tool Loui, giving an injury prone Sutter a no trade clause in his contract, and mismanagement of the team's cap situation are reasons for Aquilini to find a new GM despite his drafting prowess.

Jimbo gives out ridiculous contract terms like candy to fourth line players :lawl:

I also think that Dim Jim made a bad decision with signing the lazy bum Virtanen to a two year contract instead of letting Jake walk.

Signing Toffoli with money available from NOT signing Virtanen is a no-brainer decision.

Unfortunately, Dim Jim could not sign Toffoli. Sadge

Benning has to go!

BlackV62K2 02-06-2021 10:28 AM

Hondaracer 02-06-2021 11:40 AM

Hondaracer 02-06-2021 03:55 PM

Man, 1 shot on goal in the first 12 minutes against a team like this that’s garbage 5 on 5..

Like, are they playing to get somebody fired or are we just that bad?

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2021 03:58 PM

So HNIC is on CBC, but it's run by SportsNet now?

Hondaracer 02-06-2021 04:01 PM

Yea, everything is under the Rogers umbrella

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2021 04:03 PM

Wait CBC is owned by Rogers now? WutFace

brb going to do some reading

Edit: Nevermind it's just a licensing deal

Quote:

In 2013, the exclusive national media rights to the NHL were acquired by Rogers Media, although Rogers would reach an agreement with the CBC to license the Hockey Night in Canada brand for use in its coverage of Saturday-night games, and broker a version of the broadcasts to CBC at no charge

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2021 04:21 PM
