This team has zero chemistry, and the young players they rely on for points are gripping their sticks too tight. They need a shake up, and outside of that this team won’t be competitive till they shed all those 3-4 million dollar bottom six forwards.

it makes more sense that they're playing like shit because we lost all of those players. tanev was so defensively responsible that hughes could run around and do whatever he wanted and not have to worry so much. markstrom obviously stole us a lot of games last year. missing these two key figures (regardless of them deserving term/money or not) is destroying this team right now.

I don’t agree with that. Yes. Key figures but we did replace marky with holtby and or demko whether in Vegas god mode or not. Schmidt with tanev.

Team overall is playing like shit. None of the drive we saw against the blues. No hustle no effort.

Montreal and the Leafs are just better teams. This season will be different because of the mini-series’ and lack of variety between opponents.

Anyone who has played the game knows it’s not great for the confidence to line up against a superior team night after night. Reminds me of my last year of beer league. I could look at the schedule and know which games we’d win and which ones we’d lose with nearly pinpoint accuracy. Sure, sometimes you get lucky but going in knowing the opponent has better players isn’t great for the psyche.

That game was hard to watch. Something fundamentally wrong is going on with this team right now and it’s just sad to watch.

I also disagree the team is playing the way they are due to the loss of Tanev and Marky. They were key players but they SHOULDN'T have affected the team dynamic this much. Not sure what's going on but it's a complete 180 of what we saw from them last year. We know what everyone is capable of but instead, they can't score and can't defend and pretty hard to blame the goalies entirely imo.

I said before that I thought Tanev was super important to the culture of the team. He instantly became my favourite Canuck when I started following during the playoffs, especially after hearing the other players talk about him. They LOVED the guy.

Maybe he's beat up now and has a lower ceiling than Schmidt, but maybe there are other important things to a player and how he fits on your team? Especially when he made a particularly great paring with Hughes.

Maybe not so much the talent leaving, rather the dressing room leaders that left. Possible the team leaned on those two for keeping a level head and guiding the younger players. While miller is good, it almost seems he isn’t the type of person the younger players can look to for help or guidance. Elder is only one person. Who knows, could be a slippery slope down to the culture Edmonton has. Flipping coaches and GM’s with no stability.

Outside of being hung out to try Holtby ain’t that great imo. You can see it in his movements and positioning.

Hurts to hear on the Cal/Edm broadcast that Markstrom has been Calgary’s best player this year lol.. :okay:
