We win!! Keep playing Demko! He is the definitely the number 1 option now.

Holtby is 2B. :lawl:

LOL i only make bets when HOLTBY is playing... DEMKO is solid and can save games for the Canucks.

Liquid_o2 03-09-2021 09:37 AM

So now that Demko is proving he can be a #1, does Holtby become our extremely expensive backup goalie? Another GMJB anchor? I doubt Seattle is going to pick him up in the expansion draft.

68style 03-09-2021 10:00 AM

Our goalie position is still way less cap hit than most other teams, I’m fine with that move.

I mean, Demko and Holtby together are 2.5 less than Markstrom’s cap hit alone.

If he had brought in some no name everyone would be crying that Demko has no support.

Liquid_o2 03-09-2021 10:18 AM

Demko is an RFA after this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we have 8 to 9 million tied up in our goalies next year

Ch28 03-09-2021 11:10 AM

I'm willing to give Holtby a bit more leeway because he's now working with Ian Clark and we know what wonders he can do to goalies.

Markstrom also struggled when he first came over and now he's considered one of the top goalies in the league. Granted Marky got to work with Clark during his younger years, but there's no reason to believe that Holtby can't at least improve in the position as the season progresses. Worst case scenario is we let him go next season. Best case scenario is he plays well and Seattle either takes him during their draft or we ship him off for a pick next trade deadline.

Hondaracer 03-09-2021 12:46 PM

Holtby had that one game a few weeks ago where he looked like he was playing Clark’s style. Was always square to the puck never caught out of position etc.

My worry would be with an older goalie like him even if he’s willing to learn, he might be too stuck in his ways to reinvent his style

RiceIntegraRS 03-09-2021 01:38 PM

Well the Holtby signing was an insurance policy just incase Demko shit the bed. In the beginning of the season Demko didnt look good at all but now has found his groove. I always had my doubts about Demko, even after his performance in the playoffs but im happy that hes proving me wrong. Now if Seatlle takes Holtby in the expansion draft like everyone thinks is gonna happen then we dont have a problem.

Hondaracer 03-09-2021 01:55 PM

Had a Habs fan tell me yesterday he has a feeling Seattle may take Price

Could just be wishful thinking on his part at this point though lol

Don't think Seattle going to be taking Holtby with the way he's performing.

His contract is def a turn off too with the majority of salary coming in year 2.

No way

Bridge contract... it will be 2-3 years at 3-ish

There’s zero chance Demko is getting Markstrom money after less than a full season at #1. Flat cap era, lots of goalie parity and being a RFA he doesn’t have much rights... we will be at 7 and change (edited) for both goalies, anything else would be a grievous error

how are you at 6 and change for both goalies when Holtby himself takes 4.3M and you said a bridge contract for Demko is 3-ish...that's already like 7.3m+

68style 03-09-2021 04:47 PM

My bad I thought Holtby’s cap hit was 3... okay so 7.5 then

It’s not bad for 2 legit goalies... Markstrom and Rittich are 9.25 together

Holtby's contract is back loaded.
His $ value this year is low but next year he get's paid more way more money.

That being said, I thought what Kevin Woodley said is interesting especially about Ian Clark.
i do agree it is a bit of a shame to see dipietro on the taxi squad.

Also remember he sat around in isolation in Vancouver in case he needed to be recalled during the bubble playoffs.

Not sure to blame JB for bad cap management and not able to grab someone cheap so Dipietro can play in Utica or AQ being cheap and didn't want to spend the money. In either case, what a waste of a top flight prospect.

68style 03-10-2021 09:52 AM

I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious why tonight's game is at 8pm... definitely not to help out the EST people? Anyone know the reason?

Expresso 03-10-2021 12:44 PM

Only guess is Sportsnet wants to cover both Canadian games, Oilers at 5pm us at 8pm.

SkinnyPupp 03-10-2021 03:53 PM

Works for me, I get to watch Dynamite live first before the game FeelsAmazingMan

SkinnyPupp 03-10-2021 07:18 PM

Canucks all sleeping out there, except Demko of course

SkinnyPupp 03-10-2021 07:21 PM

This is so bad lol

You guys should be happy you're missing it
