I work in Richmond by Ironwood mall complex, and the connection was horrid. 5g Telus only pulling about 3mbps

But after switching to Rogers, it was so much better. I'm on a decent plan too, Fido to Rogers migration $39 75gb with US Roaming, got one for the wife too so we have 150gb pooled

Was that a Translink only plan? I didn't come across a deal like that. I went with the $34 for 60gb Canada only and stayed with Fido. US calling, but unclear if I can make calls free if I'm in US, or only free if I'm calling while at home. Got 2 different answers from Fido chat

Yes sir got it during the summer time at a Superstore

But for the black Friday deals, plans for BYOD kind of sucked, but getting phones on a term with a plan wasn't too bad.

Nope, it was a specific promo where if you had an existing account with Fido for a certain period of time, you can migrate over to Rogers for that plan I listed. At the time I thought it was a killer deal because the mobile shop also gave me 100k PC Optimum points for every activation.

Now the funny part, I was with Koodo at the time. So I immediately activated two lines on Fido online, then I proceeded to the mobile shop to do the migration plans, then after that ported my numbers onto Rogers. The guys there working at the time didn't really give a shit so it was a perfect opportunity.

Which is why for me if it ain't broke don't fix it. Been with Rogers since my teens (40's now) and have never experienced issues in my 20+ years with them.

walked out if a Telus store on Saturday after nearly signing up for $39.99 deal(5G) with Telus if I allowed automatic CC payment. otherwise it's $5 more.

however, no texting to the US, which is something I need. so that was a deal breaker. I even offered to swap the free international 1000 phone minutes that came with the plan for US texting, they said no.(the rep even called Toronto HQ to do this, but was denied)

How soon you forget ... this was massive, one family member happened to be on Rogers at the time - July 8, 2022

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_R...cations_outage

Since then, I made a strategic decision to put SO on different network, if one blacks out, hopefully, the other has coverage. Forget the family plan BS.

I was actually with Telus for a long time since my teens and only 2 years ago switched to Fido. The service previously on mobile was fine, and I have been a loyal customer of Telus home internet since my parents day when we first got ADSL for the first time lol.

So after getting a lot of wrath from everyone how much my phone calls sucked after moving to Freedom, I am back with Rogers on a $45 winback offer that includes:
  • 100GB US + CAN Data
  • Unlimited Canada Call / Text
  • 1000 LD minutes

I still lose Freedom's 10GB International Data Roaming, but I can work around that limitation using travel data SIMs. I'm aware there are better offers available elsewhere, but this is the best option based on:
  • Local network reliability
  • A plan that includes US data roaming
  • And most importantly, wifi-calling ability beyond NA (Telus/Bell + subsidiaries don't offer this)
Wi-Fi calling aboard lets me keep my phone number active without incurring international roaming charges. Freedom would've still worked for me if I didn't have people calling me - I had no issues with signal or accessing the internet.

I also renewed my home internet plan and saved another $70/mo. Pretty happy with the savings overall today.

Yes I have that card and used my Roam Like Home allotment already, though I'm unsure whether that resets now that I left Rogers and came back.

The 3% redemption on Rogers/Shaw service is nice too since I have both.

boxing week started in some store

Traum 12-19-2024 11:01 PM

If you have that Rogers WE Mastercard, and you use your points to pay for your Rogers / Shaw bill, you get credited with some crazy huge bonus.

I think it is sort of advertised as -- if you have $100 worth of points, and you use/redeem it to pay your Rogers / Shaw bill, that $100 worth of points is good for a $150 credit or something. The percentage amount of savings you get is insane, even though the actual dollar amount isn't that much.

Correct

When you redeem your cash back to use on your Rogers bill, it gets boosted to 1.5x

Get 1.5 times more cash back every time you redeem for Rogers, Fido or Shaw purchases

Is Amazon ok to buy SD from now? For a long time they were flooded with fakes

radeonboy 12-26-2024 09:45 AM

I bought quite a few cards from them in the past (Ship and Sold by Amazon only) and haven't had issues. I think the concerns about counterfeits are a thing from the past now as long as you buy direct from Amazon.

N.V.M. 12-26-2024 12:30 PM

$29.99 Fido, 20 gbs, month to month. so I took it. also got the $70 hookup fee for nothing as they threw in a $10 month discount for 7 months.

saw the deal just as a fluke, walking past the chalkboard sign in front of the Roger's Store @ Cap Mall.

I've been buying microSD from Amazon for many years now. Most reliable vendors will have thousands+ good reviews as well.

twitchyzero 12-27-2024 11:21 AM

reviews can be faked
stock from fulfilled by amazon are not checked for reps, only customer service is handled by the amazon team

make sure seller is amazon for peace of mind

Went to Tsawwassen mills yesterday around 6 p,m. Holy shit it was crazy. Went inside and most stores still had line ups. Used the washroom and left. Took me 20 plus minutes to leave the parking lot. They had cops and security directing traffic.

JDMDreams 12-27-2024 01:49 PM

Went to Metro at like almost 9 and there was tons of people. What recession, I think inflation numbers will be pushed up a bit.

I went to Park Royal yesterday for the first time in nearly 50 years. I used to go there often with a bunch of First Nations co workers. They got cigarettes and liquor tax free. I had them buy me stuff often. Anyway, the place has changed so much since then. It was crazy trying to get parking. Place is huge and very awkward to navigate. I enjoyed it but getting there was a bit of a nightmare. Another twenty years before I go back again, gulolol.

Holy fuck Telus cell service has been fucking BRUTAL the last few weeks, honestly bordering on unusable, do not sign up with them if you don’t have to.

Don’t know if this is a hardware thing on their end of what but I’ve got a brand new 16 pro max, wife has a 13 pro, both our phones are fucked. Getting messages hours later, I’m getting message I’ve never once seen before where the iPhone literally says “cellular connection not found connect to wifi”

This is at home, at work, out in places like Renfrew and Broadway, Main Street, etc. it’s insane.

We thought initially it was just her phone being “old” although it’s only 3 years old

Then my brand new phone was shitting the bed so I converted to an E-sim, she did the same, and we’re in the exact same situation as before.
