Hughes went from like 28th in D-man points to 2nd in 3 games :lol |
What were you guys sayings out Petey not producing at all? |
petey has no one around him finishing. but he is putting his body out there defensively. |
He’s got 9 points in 7 games ?? |
Don't worry. EP40 is not known to be consistent. He will get rolling for a bit then disappear. Sherwood still outplaying EP40 and DeBrusk, and Boeser value wise. |
Well, I mean he signed a prove you can be in the NHL contract he could get 15 points on the season and it would be better "value" for the money. Check in again next season what he's making. Hopefully with the Canucks but he may be pricing himself out of here. |
He is probably pricing himself out of here if he keeps going this pace. I hope he gets his bag of cash. Like Horvat did. lol |

- 7 games - 9 points (105 point pace) - 16 blocked shots (1st among forwards) - 90 faceoffs won (1st among forwards) |
Say what you want but Petey seems to be the player he should be, he's not as flashy as he was before but he's putting it body on the line and points on the score board. He really deserves more credit especially of he keeps this up. |
I'd say anyone who isn't able to give him credit right now simply doesn't want to. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but objectively speaking he has been making a big difference out there. Sadly, I think there will always be a group of fans who will never be on his side again. |
I also think many already made up their mind of what version of Petey he should be i.e. ripping wristers, blasting one timers, dangling around guys and scoring 40 + goals. He's matured now into something else, yes still some flashes of the scoring but bringing other elements to the table. If he can produce over a point per game, continue to defensively good (not that he wasn't before but he's adding extra elements now) and be a decent face off guy I'm all for it. |
The bigger concern is the team’s defense. They are spending so much time in their zone in the games that I have seen this season. Coach Foote was a defenceman when he played in the NHL. Why is team’s defence so bad now?? https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...ive-disaster/? No team has allowed more goals than the 77 surrendered by the Canucks, whose goals-against average of 3.67 is 30th among 32 teams, and whose 67.1 per cent penalty kill is the worst in hockey. As Sportsnet analytics correspondent Adam Vingan reported last week, the Canucks’ defensive deterioration can be traced to the front of their net, where the share of shots coming from Vancouver's slot had plummeted from 11th-best last season to 28th this year, and the team's defence of slot passes had collapsed to 30th from fifth. Toch was dump and chase, trust the system. That's why it was also boring. Lol, the Oilers are right there with us in both GA and GF |
We're #1, We're #1! :alonehappy: |

Just my own eye test, but I see the forward group being late to pick up sticks at or near the top of the slot in most goals scored from that area. Our D also appears to be backing up against the rush instead of challenging other forwards which I do find odd. Don’t forget a lot of our D has been injured as well, normally Joseph and Willander would not be playing at all. Myers is supposed to be a 5-6 in the bottom pair but he’s playing 3-4 minutes right now. |
Forwards bringing the puck into the zone instead of dumping and chasing increases chances to fire at net, but also increases chances of turning the puck over and the opponents going the other way, especially odd man rushes. dump and chase also gives tired players greater chance to change. Foote had mentioned before or at the beginning of the season that he wanted the forwards to be able to have more creativity (less dump and chase). So, at the core of it, i think it's just a difference in the system. We saw Myers play great under Toch's system, but seems to have regressed under Foote. also, pure speculation, but I think Hughes has been playing with some sort of injury since the beginning of the season. He might still be playing with it, but up until the last 3 games, he did not look like last year. |

Celebrini has been insane this year scoring from literally everywhere too. |

We can't seem to find that balance between Boudreau style and Tocchet style. These current games are reminding me a lot more of Boudreau style... it's definitely more entertaining but the structure is a bit lacking. |
Its not easy. Especially if players are used to structure hockey. They know where to go at anytime that it becomes natural. Now you throw in another line mate that plays somewhat like EP40. Plays more creative and that causes more problems if his linemates don't have the same chemistry. Now they have to think of where to go, and at the NHL level it makes a big difference. |
Sigh, canucks lose another game where they were the better team. Boys were having such a good game too.. Petey's on a 5 game point streak now with tonight's goal as well. |
Rant with a filthy goal. That was pretty crazy. Canucks PP sucks. 2 man advantage and still cant get a goal. Dallas was sloppy tonight, got out hustled, but Dallas is a contender. Canucks are not even close. Just not enough talent. |
The PP was awesome, looked dynamic and generated a tonne of chances, I watched the whole game, Oettinger made a shit tonne of crazy saves and the Canucks... well... Canucked a few sure goals... I still can't figure out how Sherwood and Petey didn't score... and we hit like at least 3 posts that I can remember. Should have been a 6 or 7-2 game for us but alas it ends up 4-2 with 2 late Dallas goals when we were pressing. Lank couldn't make that big save we needed. |
