I’m more likely to side with Bettman in the thought things are cyclical and eventually things fall in to place whether it’s free agency, drafting, etc. that enables a team to get a chance at a cup VS pure management.

Tampas window is closed, they had their run and you mortgage the future to fill in peices. Florida is likely in the same boat now with their pending free agents etc.

Yeah most pro sports are like that... You get a window, you try to make the right adjustments during that time, and then hope you can win it at least once during that time.

Some windows are longer than others, depending on players, coaches, management, etc. It's why the good teams are always good over the years, because they have good management that can open these windows on a regular basis. Oilers and Panthers had the same window, and unfortunately for the Oilers it didn't go their way twice, which is highly improbable. Good for Florida and their 400 fans!

The only issue I have are the idiot fans who think that if a team doesn't win within that window, they are basically on the same level as the shitter teams

Congrats to former Canuck Mogilny.

He is in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

From what I hear from a co-worker, Evander Kane wants to finish his career in his hometown.

He's a power forward who can help the team.

-can score goals, plays with an edge, and can fight.

Turtle boy Tkachuk did not dare to fight Kane during the Stanley Cup Finals even when the two players chirped against each other because Turtle boy knows Kane would kick his ass. Evander is a good boxer.

This would be a good trade for the Canucks IMO.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say this is a bad idea

Tim Budong 06-25-2025 07:32 AM

could work out
one year left..

or they move him at the draft...

time will tell

pastarocket 06-25-2025 07:34 AM

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Canucks are sending a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft with the Oilers not retaining any salary in the trade.

spoon.ek9 06-25-2025 07:35 AM

33 y/o at 5.125M with 1 year left

Absolutely should not extend a player like this, I don't care that he's local. If he is anything other than trade bait, this is a terrible decision.

whitev70r 06-25-2025 07:41 AM

Kane played in this year's playoffs - 21 games, 6 goals and 6 assists. Not bad.

We will need him in the playoffs ... for ~$5M/yr ... it's fine. :lol

Kane can be an effective player IF he stays healthy. Knock on wood, Evander needs to be healthy for the upcoming season.

He missed all games last season because of injury. :considered:

Fourth round pick from the Canucks in an upcoming draft which many people see as below average in draft quality of players. The asking price is not too bad for Kane.

keifun 06-25-2025 07:56 AM

4th round pick with one yr left on his contract . It's not bad. Low risk. Hopefully he shows up for his hometown team this upcoming season.

RevYouUp 06-25-2025 08:13 AM

Kane would be good if he will stop himself from partying and gambling like mad with all his local buddies lol

pastarocket 06-25-2025 08:20 AM

Kane's comments about returning to his hometown:

"I’m incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the Canucks," Kane said. "It’s an honour to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid. Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.

68style 06-25-2025 08:21 AM

I would have taken last last year Kane no issue but this past year I dunno he was a big reason the Oilers got dummied in the finals mentally and hockey wise

He’s probably same numbers as Boeser was last year but with way more grit

winson604 06-25-2025 08:23 AM

Person aside the talent is undeniable. The free agent pool is pretty weak this year and we lost 50 goals with Suter and Boeser (yes we could still resign them). That being said, I'm not super mad since it's 1 year but we could have also did without making this move as well. Regardless I think this year will be a looooong year.

whitev70r 06-25-2025 08:28 AM

Can trade him at deadline and prob get that pick back or a lot more. It's fine.

He would be a good addition to any playoff bound team ...

Hondaracer 06-25-2025 08:44 AM

On paper it makes a tonne of sense and looks great cap wise

But with everything that comes with him, i dunno lol he is exactly what the Canucks kind of need when he’s on and it cost them virtually nothing

winson604 06-25-2025 08:45 AM

I think my biggest thing is we did the Oilers a favor. Could we have not fleeced them to retain some salary at least. Oh wells

teggy604 06-25-2025 09:29 AM

Kane for one yr is okay. The Canucks lost JT Miller. So a guy like Kane will bring back some grit and toughness for the team.

pastarocket 06-25-2025 10:10 AM

The local casinos will be happy to see Kane playing for the Canucks. EleGiggle

I can see a fan's sign at a Canucks game for next season "Welcome back, Evander! What's the parlay for tonight?" LUL

whitev70r 06-25-2025 10:51 AM

Kane will be playing for a contract the following year so hopefully, he will behave.

punkwax 06-25-2025 11:51 AM

Nice short post game walk to Parq for Kaner.

teggy604 06-25-2025 12:49 PM

Meh. If Kane wants to gamble his money away so be it. After all the NHL loves to promote gambling. Bet365. Can you bet how many white hair a player has? Probably lol.

Plus at least the money is in Canada. Instead of going to casinos in Vegas.

68style 06-25-2025 12:52 PM

I just don’t like the fact we had massive locker room drama last year and then we go and bring in a guy with a massive history of locker room drama even IF he was behaving in Edmonton… it feels like going in the wrong direction as usual. Nevermind he didn’t play last season so he didn’t exactly have to try and behave.
