Mod of Sunday:

Got Mr. Takao Kijima to sign under the hood of my car. For those of you that don't know who he is or why he is so important.. Mazda Canada flew him in from Japan for this years Topless Sun Run. The Topless Sun Run is a meet, cruise and dinner for 350+ Miata owners. Mr. Kijima designed and developed the first Miata's in the 1980's and is still one of the head designers today in the new Miata's that hit the showroom floors. I must say, it is SoOooOoOOoo JDM to have his signature on my car :)

Finally got this shit all back together by 2am. Went for a spin and all seems 'ok' with a few misc sounds. I'll be the one driving around without a hood today. Broke the hood release while re-installing the engine.

new air filter + box removal = sounds mean when opened up. :)

ColinK 05-31-2007 10:35 PM

^ was thinking about doing that to my car. I wonder how different it would sound.

underscore 06-01-2007 06:20 AM

well I put a 3" shroom filter my brother got me (just a cheap one) and it fit nicely onto the factory intake hose that comes off the airbox, so I just stuck it on there, and removed the top half of the box (I left the bottom for air direction). My car sounds the same at lower throttle but when I floor it it makes a nice mean growl around 3k rpm. Not too bad for a APC filter from Princess Auto :P

down_hill_dog 06-01-2007 11:56 AM

I had one of those filters back when I was in high school. It was a great filter, it filtered out birds and large rocks and thats about it. I threw it in the garbage when I finally took off the intake tube and found there was more dirt in the tube than there was in my engine bay.. needless to say, after running it for a month I ended up having to rebuild the engine. Only reason i decided to check the intake tube in the first place was to find out why i was burning so much oil.

what about kittens? id hate for a kitten to get sucked into the prelude via mushroom intake

bmxkelowna 06-01-2007 03:18 PM

meow

girlcrazy_420 06-01-2007 03:59 PM

Those filters are horrible. I'd never run myself. They look like the plastic surround would melt with anything above 30degrees

underscore 06-01-2007 06:02 PM

yeha I'm gonna take a look in there tonight to see if there's anything getting into the intake, if so I'm going back to the stock box. de-mod of the day :P

down_hill_dog 06-02-2007 07:25 AM

just to prevent yourself from another blown motor. personally, with the experience I have from years of blowing shit up.. I'll ONLY run K&N

Delerious 06-02-2007 10:41 AM

what about those team green filters dhd, i've heard good things about them from the Z community...

modded most of everything out of the engine bay, now just need a hoist to pull it outta there!

Slo40 06-02-2007 02:00 PM

ahhh damn it! Now I have to ge rid of my mushroom filter.... Mine works great.

underscore 06-02-2007 03:49 PM

yeah there was some duct in there so I took it off...and when I re-installed the top hald of the box I realised the sensor wasn't even plugged in before, so A) dust was getting in the hole before and B) that would explain why my car would randomly bog down, the ECU wasn't getting the right reading. probably also why my fuel economy was so shitty.

KyleMR2 06-02-2007 10:12 PM

ya jordan either use K&N filter or APEXi. APEXi is better long term, as you never have to re-oil/clean them as you do the K&N. all you do with APEXi is take it out MAYBE once a year and blast it with a bit of air

underscore 06-02-2007 10:21 PM

and those cost HOW much?

jeffh 06-02-2007 10:24 PM

polished more shit, ive gone through a tube of auto-sol in 2 weeks >_< also removed some gay splash shield, and got my fan dialed in a think

zumvette 06-03-2007 07:44 PM

modded a taurus 3.8L elec fan to the 4x4 s10, this wails compared to the slim fan i had. it keeps up in traffic with my "light driving" lol. i havet tried it on high yet but low speed works fine.

Delerious 06-03-2007 10:46 PM

taurus 3.8L fans pull some serious fking air... i know a number of heavily modified z31's running them without cooling issues... should be able to keep the s10 nice and cool
