Shima-ya has extremely fresh fish, the owner was the head sushi chef at Chiyoda on Alberni Street before they closed a few years back. Its located at 5589 Victoria at 41st and like all good sushi places they are closed on Mondays (its a fish supply thing). Prices are very reasonable and there's lots of free parking around plus there's a London Drugs next door in case you need to do any last minute shopping.

It's not a "fish supply thing." It has to do with the fact that most of Canada's statutory holidays are on a Monday, so it saves labour costs to be closed on Mondays.

the busy restaurant just shows how the delicacy of the food overtakes the shitty service. or in other words, ppl take into minimal consideration of the service, because the food is just too good!

shawn79 03-15-2011 04:33 PM

im not surprise if people walk out just because they have to wait 15-20min to pay for their bill

people need to start doing that so sushi garden get the message not to make people wait in line just to pay for the god damn bill

rs meet at sushi garden? :troll:

May as well put this question in this thread.

Are there any good sushi restaurants in Surrey aside from Hanako? I don't care about size of the rolls or anything, I just want some quality fresh sushi for a decent price.

Tobiko on 160th St and Fraser Hwy is pretty good, but aside from them and Hanako I don't know of any others worth going to.

Akasaka used to be good but over the past year their quality has suffered.

It's not Surrey, but Akari on Scott and 72nd is a very good place.

Hondaracer 03-15-2011 05:50 PM

Akasaka behind guildford theatres, my personal favorite closest to me

its hard for me to say which is better, bad food, good service, or good food, bad service. either can ruin a meal.

in sushi house's case, its bad service (and wait times) and decent food with big portions. you see mostly young people in there because for them they're willing to wait long and endure bad service.
