And there's this sushi place in the big plaza on Blundell, right by the Safeway.

Unrelated to this point, but have a quick Q. Why is the Sakana salmon so much better than anywhere else ? I understand there must be other restaurants that have the same supplier, but it's always so soft without any sinew, etc.

triadik 01-23-2009 12:25 AM

i like matsuyama

bbbj 01-23-2009 12:37 AM

anyone know if daimasu in richmond has the same menu as burnaby? the quality isn't the best but for late night japanese cravings i guess it gets the job done. same as matsuyama i guess.

Sushi Garden doesn't belong in this thread.

I concur. Been there twice, both times had shitty services, but average sushi.

suzuka84 01-23-2009 10:35 PM

Su sha ya oysters = endless shits for at least 2 nights.

It should seriously be an auto ban for 2 days for anyone saying that Ayce is good sushi.

Meowjin 02-02-2009 09:24 PM

Theres a place on granville thats open for all the people that go clubbing, forget the name but the guy behind the counter (jacky) is really nice.

The sushi is mediocre, but damn the toro he has is fucking delicious, possibly some of the best in the city. on the other hand once in a while he fucks up the rice and i have no idea how he does it.

hows shima-ya? the reviews on it seem pretty good yet its in the middle of east van where i wouldnt expect there to be quality japanese restaurants.

Ronin 02-03-2009 12:19 PM

After going to Japan and eating some of the best sushi on the planet from places that get their fish fresh every morning...I've become such a sushi snob. I refuse to eat AYCE now. I didn't like places like Samurai and such before either but I refuse to eat anything but quality sushi now, which is tough to really find here.

Armind 02-03-2009 12:45 PM

^ How much is sushi in Japan anyways?

Toyo is owned by Japanese?

As I recall, it's owned by Koreans, and the sushi and cooked food i had there was average at best.
