fixed the crop in the first one. better?

i picked the bottom crop because with more 'headroom' on the top of the image it throws the whole image a little off balance. it though this was the most comfortable crop to look at.. no?

Maybe a little underexposed, J__? There is no detail in the blacks in #1.

ya that one was the edit. it was all back lit. which threw a flare on the black part. had to edit it out and turn out like that. how do u guys prevent flares in back lighting?

I always light the background from the front and gobo it, and keep a 2:1 ratio.

J____ 03-02-2009 12:45 AM

thats wat i normally do. i didnt backlight for the purpose of lighting the background. wanted to create kind of silhoutte rim light feel.

edit: i think alot of you will find this thread very helpful :D

Got a new hat and the Linden pin. Just curious as to what you guys use to edit your photos.

Matsuda 03-02-2009 06:06 AM

I use lightroom for all my editing

niforpix 03-02-2009 07:08 AM

Just the symmetry? What about the endangered polar bear on an escalator :)

No I didn't, just wasn't into it. Maybe another time.

Great photos Mananetwork! I also enjoy the last 4 in your recent blog entry. (actually i like reading your blog too!).

Japan is so photogenic!

Thanks for commenting on the blog. Hope most readers haven't found it evident that I've started shortening the stories back to just key points from the day. I'm glad the fact that I'm diligent, it helps out with my poor writing skills. :lol

Exactly what I use both for

Lightroom - Control light, adjust image to proper exposure and WB
Photoshop - Clone, masks, gradients, re-invent the colour wheel

!Nhan 03-02-2009 11:09 AM

Where did you guys learn how to use photoshop and lightroom? or was it just a trial and error type of thing. You guys got any good links?

niforpix 03-02-2009 11:50 AM

There are a lot of good free tutorials on the internet. I go to www.planetphotoshop.com quite often for some cool tutorials, but I'm also taking courses for it too which I find I've learned way more than just learning from tutorials online. But that's just me. Some people will disagree...

Got Lightroom and installed it today and played around abit. C&C on my editing would be great.

niforpix 03-04-2009 02:01 PM

Edit is better in a way that it's brighter, but I think the highlights in the hat are a bit blown out. I think.

!Nhan 03-04-2009 02:08 PM

Do you just use the quick develop stuff on the side to edit the pictures? or is there more I'm missing

Mananetwork 03-04-2009 02:46 PM

A little better, but the yellow/green is still noticeable from the incandescent house lamp.

Here's my edit.
I upped the blue, dropped the red and green. I found that the highlights weren't as bright as they should be (but this is just a general preference as I like to push to a cleaner white)
