thanks again for the informative post !

I am assuming all the brands listed above run on chains right ? or still battery?

chains are better right ?

"run on chains"? Are you serious?
Like a pocket watch, good sir?

Seriously though, it's called "mechanical" watches. And watches that runs on battery uses Quartz movement.

Your questions about the Tissot, Tag Heuer and Longines. In my opinion Tissot is the lower tier out of all three. Tag however has wide range of models ranging from Tissot price bracket to Longines. There are few Tag models (Aquaracer 500m and Carrera) that I would like to try in the future.
As Redlines mentioned earlier, there is a pretty noticeable difference in the finish of $1k+ Tag models compared to the Tissots.
As for Longines I only like the Hydroconquest model as the other ones are all too elegant for my taste.

Finally the mm sizes are usually measurement of the watch case excluding the crown. Depending on your wrist size but I find anything over 46mm is ridicules and the sweet spot for me is 42-44mm.

I'm more of a bracelet guy though.

Here are the rest of my current collection. Just recently picked up the Citizen Ecozilla for fun. It's a really fun watch and the Suppa adapter allows me to mount various leather strap.

oh sorry yes I Meant "mechanical" instead of "chains"

so Tissot, Tag heur, Longines and Brietling watches are all mechanical right? How much approx does one of these retail for ?

Redlines_Daily 01-09-2014 03:39 PM

Many brands make both mechanical and quartz watches. Quartz are actually much more accurate and reliable than even the most expensive mechanical on the planet, but there is nothing interesting about the movement. If you just want a watch to tell time, then there is no shame in going quartz.

AVS_Racing 01-13-2014 04:36 PM

where do you guys go to service your watches? I have a seiko 7002 that I want to get serviced, it runs but the power reserve is only a few hours after I take off the watch. It even dies when its on the winder. Also I want to get the dial relumed. anyone local does this?

Seriously, do you not have access to Google, eBay, Costco, or a mall?

Your question is ridiculous, it's like going on a car forum and posting a one line question: How much do cars cost?

Breitlings range from about $3k to $400k. Tissot starts at about $300 and goes up from there. Virtually every manufacturer offers mechanical and automatic.

You need to narrow stuff down a ton more.

Mr.Stubbz 01-14-2014 07:03 PM

.... 400k?

I have taken my watches to Time & Gold and they did good work every time.

LoL 400k?? for a Breitling? dude it ain't Audemars, or Patek Phillipe. I don't think even their One OFF's would be that much.

akira112 01-16-2014 01:34 PM

Replaced the rubber strap with a zulu strap for the eco drive.

Top 10 Most Expensive Breitling Watch Models - TheRichest

"And, the top spot goes to the Grande Complication model. It is not the typical wrist-watch as it is a pocket watch with an eye-popping price of $280,700, thus the name: Grande."

So $280,700 USD plus exchange rate and taxes, you are looking at about $345k CDN. My bad, I should have said $350k haha.

Thanks for coming out. ;)

I stand corrected...I dont really bother to look at watches I can't afford; but still a pocket watch? No thanks I'm not a turn of the century railway conductor haha!

E_Fahlman 01-16-2014 02:56 PM

Sidenote: after I had to eat my words I looked on eBay and your #2 watch on the list can be had on eBay for 79,995$

lowside67 01-16-2014 03:08 PM

Haha for what it's worth, I totally just guessed at $400k and karma just threw me a bone. It just doesn't really matter what kind of watch it is, at those prices you are basically just paying for the value in the diamonds, etc. so the sky is really the limit...

Mr.Stubbz 01-16-2014 03:16 PM

man, its probably cus ill never afford a 400kish watch or anything near it but i could never imagine/justify wearing that much "money" on me with the potential for it to be scratched :denied:

It's a good watch with a solid movement. Longines calls it a calibre L688, which is based on the ETA 7750. The 7750 is reliable movement that can be found in tag, omega, brietling and a tonne of other chronographs. It's a good watch, what's the price they are offering you?
