Looking for a pilot watch in this kind of style but so many out there, any recommendations (under $1000)
i.e., Archimede, Hamilton Khaki Aviation, Maratac, Laco

Honestly for under $1000, its really hard not to recommend something that isn't a Hamilton, esp for what you're looking for. I personally love the Hamilton Khaki Pilot, which can be had for around $600.

If you don't mind going used, look at something from Fortis or Sinn... although that might be a bit over your budget.

Bonka 10-27-2014 12:01 AM

Used will open you up to Stowa, Laco, Damasko. Then priced below that there's also Aristo, Steinhart. Since there is so little variance between the design among the various makers I would either go really cheap or get a Stowa, which will push past your budget a bit but is probably the best value Pilot with pedigree without spending a few thousand (if you care about that.)

I'm not sure if I need to service it though, guessing its probably not worth it, but the movement sounds loose and rattley and the power reserve seems very short.

If someone locally is willing to service it without overcharging it sounds like a simple service is required. If you really love the thing it actually might be cheaper to buy a new movement and drop it in.

My Orange Monster is also in need of servicing, it is losing minutes quite drastically. Anywhere locally that could do it?

Just came across this article and have to share. This is the 2 Million Dollar Richard Mille RM-5602

I know it's not the very first fully Sapphire casing, its actually the third in the RM series, but it blows my mind evey time I see it. Apparently it takes over 900 hours to complete just the casing (I assume that's mainly growing the crystal). If you carefully look at the movement you can trace the pulley going around it and see how its suspended. :awesom:

We're on the same boat. Kind of want something that's not so available in store. I'm deciding on Stowa, Steinhart, Archimede.....So hard to decide considering they pretty much look exactly the same lol

ilvtofu 10-31-2014 08:57 PM

@hundredone interested in one of those straps!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...e054493d7176b2
I just switched to this suede strap because my original leather one was getting quite worn out. Sucks not to have a deployment clasp any more and I don't want to modify this strap permanently to work with the deployment

Alright, it's time I make my contribution to this kick ass thread.

First up,
Tag Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 Special Edition
Got this one from the GF on my bday. I picked it out of course. It's a solid watch that has some real weight to it. 200m WR. I love the rotating bezel, it helps know exactly how long I have left on my parking meter lol. The bezel only turns counter-clockwise for security. i.e if a scuba diver sets a certain amount of time it can never go beyond that. If they accidentally move the bezel it can only lessen in time (counter clockwise motion). The bracelets on these watches have a mini extension so you can wear it over your race jacket when you're slammin the gas at Mission Raceway.

aaand,
Citizen Titanium CA4015-54E Chronograph
Had to order this one online as it isn't available in the Canadian Market. I found out that all the Citizen watches here say "Japan Mov't" which probably isn't a bad thing but I suspect the housing is made and assembled in China. After some much searching for a daily watch I found this one online and not only did I love it but it said "Made in Japan" which sold me. I don't know if "Made in Japan" is worth anything - The Japanese probably aren't as strict as they are in Switzerland but it's unique and that's good enough for me. I sized this one myself (last picture). Citizen's titanium bracelets have these tiny beads that lock the metal pin in place and you have to be very careful not to lose it. It falls out as soon as you unhook the link.

It's featuring:
Super titanium - which is very light especially in contrast to the Tag
24hrs and Date Display
Chronograph - another great parking timer lol
Eco-Drive

Both are quartz watches and fairly priced. Next up will definitely be a mechanical watch but not just yet as they can be quite pricey. Shout out to Nabs, LOVE the Hamilton you posted (first time hearing about this brand and they have some really nice stuff).

Always loved tbe Tag Heuer Formula 1's. My first two watches were F1's a WAC1110 & WAC1111. But I still find it funny that they have a Watch Named Formula 1 and have a special edition for Indy 500 LoL! Anyone know more about that?

E_Fahlman 11-05-2014 06:44 PM

I've put my Tag Heuer Aquaracer up for sale on eBay and our local Craigslist if anyone is interested: Tag Heuer Aquaracer CAF2014 Authentic

Nice Tag! GLWS. And yeah I have no idea why they have an Indy 500 F1 edition lmao. Tag's got their hands in quite a diverse bit of advertising-cookie-jars so I assume to them it's another great thing to be a part of.

Looking to put up my Omega PO XL for sale. Anyone interested?
It's the more desirable 2500D movement too.

TAG Heuer was capable of providing timing equipment that measured time in 1/10,000th of a second which was required by Indy 500.

Thanks man, I love the watch, Did quite a bit of research before purchasing it. And a lot of people notice it too. The pictures don't do it justice.

I've been reading a lot about hamilton over the past few months, it's made by the Swatch group, who also makes Omega watches. It has an ETA movement, 60hr reserve. And the day/date wheel is what really separates it from the rest.

I was thinking about buying other (jap auto) watches until a friend suggested this brand to me and helped me make up my mind. Why spend so much and not get a swiss right.

I'm looking at Tag watches right now, got my eye on the Calibre 5 500m Autoracer. I don't think I can buy a quartz ever again, lol.

I love your F1 watch as well. My co-worker has a similar one but with an automatic movement, looks amazing.

Very nice piece man! My Brother has the CS3110 which is the White & Blue Dial! I'm very jealous of him every time he brings it out!
