for all you guys that like to watch foreign movies that you downloaded but can't read the subtitle file on your ps3, use this program

http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php

works like a charm, watching asian movies with subtitles on the ps3 ftw

Some questions for you guys. If I try to put in a USB stick with movies on it that I want to copy onto the harddrive, it always says there are no files on it! When I put my iPod in, basically the same thing happens. I can go into the info menu and it will count and show that I have 2100 songs, XXGB used and XXGB free. But only 1 song will show up on the menu and be playable. WTF?

back out of the USB drive, hit triangle and then "Show All"

Keep in mind the drive must be in FAT32. I highly doubt you can just plug an ipod into a PS3 but I could be wrong, try doing the same deal with the show all and lmk.

Awesome! Now if there was a way to select the audio track, I just started watching Initial D and dubs are lame but they're the default audio track.

Underscore, that worked this time thanks a lot. No idea why it didn't before, bizarre.

blank BD roms/burners are still too expensive so pirating games is useless.

BD-r 50gb discs are $7 (25gb discs for $2) and u can get a burner for about $120 now

but i dont see them hacking the ps3 lastingly, with the firmware updates required to play new movies/games

It seems this person (who also is involved in the iphone hacking scene) claims that he has "hacked" the ps3's security but not releasing anything until he has decrypted the key or something. anyway heres a link to ign.

why bother with optical media when the best way to pirate games ever since the PS2 is to use an external hard drive and a homebrew ISO loader...?

the only meh thing about this is that geohot's not sharing what he did with other devs yet, which means its gonna be a long time before something awesome comes out of this.

.Renn.Sport 01-25-2010 05:30 PM

its gonna take a while before the PS3 is fully hacked with custom firmware... even by then, sony will be updating the firmware and releasing hardware revision so often that it will be a cat/mouse game like the PSP

new PSP is pretty much crippled when hacked anyways.

PS4 should be out within the next 2-3 years anyways

Cnguyen 01-25-2010 09:38 PM

well, game companies haven't really released games on blue ray discs for the ps3 yet. There are a few, but not many. however there are some coming out though... like FF13 and GT5 for example. (and hopefully the next gta=D)

Xbox is cramping ps3's style and forcing major game companies to make dvd9 quality games... must be ONE reason ps3 is doing so bad in the market. Once xbox dies down and start leaking info on their next system, games will then finally take a REAL turn towards blue-ray. So yea ps4 is gonna come out eventually.. but not that soon. If sony out do the next xbox again, then i think we're gonna see the same thing happening alllll over again..

Basically what that means is NO WIDE SELECTION OF PS(3) GAMES... something i absolutely can't stand. I love my play station, but where the games at? i blame xbox.

underscore 01-25-2010 09:44 PM

^ This is true, the three-shitty is definitely holding the PS3 back. On the plus side though, the next XBox will just break even with the PS3, so PS3 users (theoretically) shouldn't have to upgrade to run the next wave in gaming.

Even FFXIII is on dvd9 so it's still limited
but i think MGS4, killzone 2 and uncharted are good examples of utilizing PS3's real power.

True that. xbox will then finally enter the 'next gen'.

And twitchyzero Congrats on your next 4k'th post!

Edit: Regarding the 'hack', i am excited. But i am also very terrified how burning blue-ray games will cost and turn out.

FF13 will be on 3-4 disc for the 360 with compressed audio

Well considering that you have to buy high-quality media to burn the 360 games (or else they go bad after a while) I would assume the discs needed to copy PS3 games are expensive. For the number of games that I really find worth playing, and how much I play CoD online, I personally wouldn't find it very worthwhile. Even if they can be booted off an external HDD, some of the exclusive PS3 games I can see being f'king huge to DL.

hotjoint 01-26-2010 06:57 AM

^yeah thats the thing, either get a blu ray burner and blu rays which are expensive or get a 1 tb hdd which would fill up easily with the size of the ps3 games, not to mention the download time. If anything I would just like the backwards compatability again.

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-26-2010 01:37 PM

looks like there is no solution in terms of hacking PS3 than

burnt copies are still gonna be expensive due to the cost

probably like $20-25 a piece

The kid that hacked it mentioned that with that hack, your ps3 will be able to have backwards compatability even if it isn't the old fat 60gb.

yea man, can't afford to have any errors with these discs. i would be soo pissed.

i'm curious if the ps3 would ever have cfw like the psp. That way we can at least mess around with homebrew stuff

BLUETIGER 01-26-2010 10:08 PM

once people start buying and burning blu-rays, i would expect the price per disc will go down somewhat.
