One of the worst izakaya/tapas restaurants in downtown.

Nachos - a bunch of a chip crumbs with cheese on top, what a joke
Special "rolls" - could the rolls have any less rice on it..
Chicken Karaage - felt like I was only eating batter, the sauuses were too much. Honey mustard and hot ketchup? really?

Better off going to Guu
Will not return.

Dam ! beat me to it.. ya that place was super disappointing..
Also gota add the beer was flat and watered down! (ordered 2 pitchers Sapporo)

Dae Rae Oak - 8/10
- Solid.. I can never get enough of the BBQ ribs there.. the only thing i order actually haha
- Also my gf's beef stone pot was loaded.. I swear there was more meat then rice.. but this might have been cause they were really busy earlier and ran outa a lot of side dishes (only got 3 but usually get around 5-6)

Boathouse Richmond 9/10.
It was the Valentines menu today. We both enjoyed it a lot.
Everything was done right and tasted great. Service was awesome as well.

Sushi California (North Road)
6/10
Seriously do not understand why people love this place so much online, sashimi was frozen, rolls were mostly rice, rice was mushy and bland. Not bad value for money but sushi garden and nao sushi >>>> sushi california. They serve a strange tea too, maybe I'm just not used to it. Menu is pretty generic nothing great about it

only reason it passes is the waitress was pretty hot and service was not bad

8/10 for a fast food place.

If you like Mexican, it's a must try. Way better than Taco Del Mar, which would be its closest competitor food-wise and price-wise.

Have been there 3 times now and food was consistent each time.

Tried it today upon your quick review. I'll have to agree, I'd give this an 8/10 as well given the locale, price, and quality of food for a fast food joint. Like yourself, I much prefer Mucho Burrito over Taco Del Mar.

Ended up eating at Dockside on granville island last night for valentines day.

Overall I'd give it a 9/10 (not much of a food critque though :P)
Food tasted really good, presentation was also good, the service was great, and the view looked really nice.

Kibune Sushi @ Kits 7.5/10

presentation was great, service was friendly.... the ingredients seemed fresh as well. why the low mark? the service was really slow... plus a couple of pieces of sashimi were wet... which caused me to raise an eyebrow or two...

Senna4ever 02-15-2011 07:06 PM

^^^ Kibune has really gone downhill in the past few years, unfortunately. Their quality control isn't what it used to be.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 02-15-2011 07:39 PM

yeah i was surprised that the tuna was wet.. like left a wet mark on the dish wet... -___-. though the salmon served w/ ikura was a nice touch.

in poco, right across from the courthouse.

Just got back from here w/ my GF. We both agreed that it's on par with or worse than Pho Hoa.

The place smelled like bleach and incense, everything inside was pink and it was so cold we had to leave our coats on while we ate.

GF ordered beef pho, I got grilled lemongrass chicken and pork patty on rice and we both got a fried roll and ice coffee.

The broth tasted okay but there was definately some msg in there. I didn't have any beef but my GF said it tasted off and only ate 2 pieces. My grilled chicken was decent but nothing to write home about. The pork patty tasted stale and I only had 1 bite. Spring rolls were a bit greasy but tasted okay. Ice coffee was super weak.

I'm actually drinking a frappe from Starbucks w/ extra espresso, just to taste some real coffee.

Overall, 3/10...will not go back.

Just got back from Miku in downtown Vancouver with my g/f. I'm still pretty stuffed as I'm typing this out.

First item we had was the Atlantic Salmon Sashimi. It has so much flavour and very fresh.

http://img815.imageshack.us/img815/9...monsashimi.jpg

Next item is the Aburi Sashimi. Again, it has so much flavour and very fresh. I didn't have to use any sauce or wasabi.

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/5...urisashimi.jpg

Next item is the Sablefish Saikyoyaki. It is very tasty and fresh. The skin is amazing. The fish just melts in your mouth.

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/8...aikyoyaki1.jpg

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/518...aikyoyaki2.jpg

Next is the Premium Aburi. This was actually quite filling. It packed a lot of flavour and punch. This dish is just amazing.

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8...emiumaburi.jpg

Then we had the Red Wave Roll. It is sweet to the taste and has plenty of flavour.

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/2392/redwaveroll.jpg

The last item we had was the Coal Harbour Roll. The ebi on top is so yummy.

http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/3...arbourroll.jpg

Overall ambience is very nice, but it does get a bit noisy from the customers and staff. Total price before taxes is $130'sh. Not cheap, but not overly expensive. Definately worth going again.

honolulu cafe : 7/10
rice, soup , love their sweet&sour pork chops, beef+beans lol not bad for the price imo

TRDood 02-15-2011 09:11 PM

Pink Peppercorn 10/10. This is what west coast dining should taste like. None of that DOV bullshit e.g. Provence, Dockside, Chambar, etc.

Food and service were excellent. It was also a nice touch when the chef actually comes out and chat with his customers!

Bread with lobster oil + balsamic: 1st time, interesting flavours
Lobster bisque: tasty, a little bit on the salty side but kind of expected
Trio tartare: didn't really like it because the dish was raw. Still good though
Char fish entree: very tasty, excellent presentation.
Sockeye salmon entree: nicely done, just the way it should be. Chef put his efforts into it. Not some assembly line crap.

Good service, the server always checked up and professional. (it's not those hot chick servers showing cleavage)

Bill came and they also gave us some chocolate cover strawberries, leftovers from yesterday (vday).

Will go back and try other stuff.

Fyi: 1.5lb lobster today was $32. Reasonably priced for a white restaurant.

That stuff on top is ikura, doesnt look anything like ebi (shrimp). 130 seems very resonable for the type of food you got. Makes my trip to octopus garden at 100 /person a ripoff now.

This does not necessarily make your judgement any more valid.

If it tastes like Pho Hoa, it tastes like Pho Hoa. In fact, I don't even know how can pho be any worse than Pho Hoa because that in itself is already rock bottom! :lol

I've known many friends and colleagues from work who have gone to Vietnam. Each and every one of them have come back only to say that it is different and there is no "standard" especially in comparison to what's available here.

that is true, it is differnt all through Vietnam.

i meant it as i have had the pho that is served here and the authentic pho that is how it makes my OPINION more valid.

im in search of a 8/10 or better compared to this 3/10.

Atlantic salmon almost always is now farmed salmon. They are also commonly referred to as pink salmon.

Was doing some ecology research on the salmon farming facilities and found this out.

Yep, I don't even touch salmon at sushi restaurants anymore unless it's:
a. cooked
or
b. wild sockey

Sorry, please don't think I'm calling you out or anything...
But, is it just me, or does this look a little like slimy farmed stuff?

Looks farmed to me.

The Pho in 'Nam IS different from anything you get here. Some places come close but the meat, veg, noodles are all grown/raised in different places so there's no way it could be the same.

If you like it, you should continue to go there - it's just not for me. 90% of the Vietnamese places I like are in E.Van.

Kim Phung
Pho Quyen
le petit saigon
pho vin
bao chao (fried rolls only)

Pink Salmon is different. It's Pacific salmon species.
