ABC Country - Richmond Bacon Cheddar Benny - requested medium for my eggs, came out fine. hollandaise sauce wasn't heavy nor salty, and those potato chunks were delicious! 8/10 A while back, not sure if they still do it, but they have a brunch buffet on weekends. AYCE Eggs Benedict. SO. Good. |

Goldstone chinatown Good hk style cafe. I felt fucking nostalgic here. If you want to feel like your in the 80's (and that includes the patrons) GO HERE. Seeing older working professionals in 80's business suits, and older chinatown residents and the decor of the resteraunt reminded me of the vancouver that was and is slowly fading to oblivion. 8/10. edit: Got the curry brisket, and pinneaple bun. |

The BiBo Restaurant 1835 W4th Ave New Italian restaurant that opened start of this month, official grand opening was yesterday. Best. Pizzas. I have ever had. Wood burning oven, thin crust with leopard spots. Amazing cheese spreads, ingredients sourced and imported directly from Italy. Not sure how much more "Italian" this restaurant can get! http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwu/sets/72157626152289031/ http://www.604foodtography.com/2011/...aurant-launch/ |

the amuse-bouche was the tart you saw. it was foie gras. i also got a foie gras course, seared with some sort of reduction. and cantelope. and my steak was topped with a foie gras terrine, sitting in pool of red wine reduction with bits of truffle floating everywhere. my bro just conveniently didn't take those photos. :( |
Culervin, what was the approximate cost of your meal? |
Nuba: "real lebanese food" decor was nice, a hidden in the hole type place, it was fully packed on a Tuesday which was unique. Can I tell what food was lebanese, nope. Was I impressed, yeah I would say. We had 3 people we shared a huge platter for 50 bucks and it had lamb chops + chicken skewers. It was done really nicely for 50 bucks, the lamb and chicken was done perfectly. What I did not like was how nothing was "lebanese" I couldn't tell specifically what was authentic. Yes, there was humus, there was baba ghanooj (eggplant humus type deal), naan etc... Drinks were decent and the place was really nice. It's more of a mature but hippy type crowd. No wonder the place was making money, there's 2 grill chef, + 2 mexican salad/humus station person which one of them was a dish washer. Would I go back, maybe, was it epic enough in the food part.. not really. 7.5/10 in general. It has always been on my list but it was just not memorable for me. |
Hog Shack in steveston. the previous owners finally changed it up and made it into a bbq place, new TVs, GREAT beer selection + bbq food. You walk in and you can smell the aroma of smoked BBQ. We got a jurassic platter + brisket and we almost finished between 4 people. Beer menu was amazing, something outside of the typical local Bud or Canadian, which I was happy to see. the food was in a menu that was easy to read. Appetizers were meh, I didn't even look at it cause I was there for bbq. The BBQ was decent, the presentation, and sides all came in a fair timely manner. the sides were ok. they had like 9 sides and we had 6 of them. i would NOT get fries even when they say it was "hand cut", yam fries and pototo wedges were just cheap and felt like store bought but other such as coleslaw, corn bread, beans were all there. the only beef i got was the coleslaw. It lacked sugar, salt and pepper. overall it was like eat raw veggies. I would totally go back again since it's rare for Richmond to have bbq joints. they are busy as heck so I know it'll be crazy during the summer. if they could do a great job on bbq sauce and try to make their in house sauce and produce it, bottle it themselves i could see them kicking it onto another level in making more money. 8/10 |
Memphis Blues. Had the Memphis platter, found the ribs and chicken kind of dry and the brisket a little too burnt. 7.5/10 |
Don Guacamoles today for early dinner. Tacos - (1 for $2.75, 4 for $10) Birria (Lamb) Lengua (Beef tongue) Chorizo Carnitas + 1 Sol ($6) De-fucking-licious. |
Thai Hang on East Hastings 9/10 best com suon ever .. :bigthumb: |
Insadong - 8/10 Had japchae, spicy tofu soup, kimchi udon, and beef bibimbap. Everything was good except the bibimbap. Another downer was that the restaurant felt like it got progressively colder as the meal went on. |
House of Empanadas 1220 Bute St. Vancouver(corner of Bute and Davie) http://www.houseofempanada.com/www.h....com/Home.html Ordered a jumbo Spicy Pork Picadillo and Mushroom Garlic for $3.95 each. Gave us a sample of two bite size yam, pineapple almond empanada ($1.50 each) They just closed up shop when we got there but they still served us. 8/10 Just because they close early on a Saturday night. Will definitely go back though and try some of their other flavours. |
Nandos Kingsway. 4/10. I dont know what the hell they were doing today, but the food sucked. Chicken portions were smaller than normal, and it was so overcooked that it was tough. They got our side order wrong twice too. Maybe Groupon=lower quality food/service.. Lol. |

Food was pretty good, what I had anyways which was the Pigasus plate I believe. It was a mound of pulled pork, half rack of ribs and two sides. Pulled pork was decent, I liked the ribs more, nice and meaty and good sauce on them. The cornbread was ok, Boonie's was 1000x better. Potato wedges were forgettable as you mentioned. Other people in my dining party liked the food, others thought it was just average. Overall I would give it a 7/10, not somewhere I'm dying to go back to. Still on the hunt for solid all around BBQ. |

Anyways, back on topic. Sushi Moto - 7/10 Right underneath Holdom skytrain station. Korean Run, much better than expected. Food was good, a couple twists like a mototaki style negitoro nigiri, Charred hamachi. The Tuna tataki was much larger than expected. Glad there's decent sushi walking distance from me now. |
Liquid_o2: You are sort of right, the service needs some loving, but for us it was the time waiting for food. The food took forever...... the service from our group was great, we sat there from 7:30 till closing and they were really awesome and never had an issue. Filled our waters countless times and checked on us. I went 3 weeks ago, maybe it was after you went. yeah, 7-8/10... decent in Richmond, but won't be something I'm dying to go back. |
