Two of my friends racked up a $600 bill at Togo's with a bottle of sake which was like $150ish..No idea how that can happen..lol

That's not bad, I spent the same at octopus garden for 2 Ppl Omakase and a pot of tea. If I knew tojos was the same I would have went there.

For sushi?! Fuck that.

Cheesecake factory - got the red velvet cake cheesecake
10/10 SO GOOD

dangonay 02-20-2011 02:25 PM

So who else is the same quality as Tojo's? What good is it to say "lots of places are that good" and then never list them?

unit 02-20-2011 04:12 PM

me and my friend once ran up a $400 bill at tojos, 500 after tipping. good thing he paid!
honestly its overpriced but you're not gonna find anything comparable in vancouver for overall cooked and raw dishes that have creativity and perfect execution. its not just 'for sushi' so if you just want sushi then definitely go elsewhere such as seto, ajisai, hanako, etc... if you're trying to impress a client or something, then tojos is definitely the best place u can take them in terms of food, service and ambiance for japanese cuisine.

LiquidTurbo 02-20-2011 06:46 PM

^ are you an attractive girl? That is the only reason I can fathom for treating someone to a $500 meal.

I prefer Miku.

A bit cheaper too. For straight up fresh Nigiri's, a place like Sushi Hachi in Richmond I think is comparable.

+1
I've gone to Miku's a few times and the food and service was great.

Pink Peppercorn - 9/10

1.5 LBS Lobster was really fresh but I prefer Chinese style lobsters more then just dipping it with butter :)

The salmon wellington was so fucking good! I'd definitely come back here again just for that. The service was alright...didn't really check up on us..

Neptune Seafood Restaurant
3/10

Had a big family dinner here with 2 tables. Employees roughly placed down orders and didn't bother to make room for them, one didn't even bother to look at a younger relative when he ordered a drink. The shark fin soup was soo bland - there were huge chunks of shark fin, but like I said, the soup was really bland and watered down. What a waste. The Peking duck was pretty good though - skin had a nice crunch to it. I tried a bit of the curry crab, which was surprisingly good. It packed a lot of flavor. Other dishes were very mediocre - nothing really stood out to me, hence I can't remember much. Oh there was an order of bittermelon tempura or something like that - it was sliced bittermelon with a battered crust, which was kind of hard and oily. Not good. It was a relative's birthday, so we had those pink birthday buns. I didn't touch them, but others said they tasted pretty bad. We also had sesame balls (didn't touch either), but we had a lot of leftovers, so I'm assuming they weren't that great. There were also cookies with nuts of some sort, and green bean paste. I tried a bit of the green bean paste, and it was just bad. No one at my table touched theirs lol. This dinner, together with my previous dim sum experience here, makes me never want to go back there again. Don't waste your money (or time.)

LiquidTurbo 02-21-2011 03:42 AM

^ lol, shark fin eater.

Was it $32? What else did you have in the lobster dish?

I tried the Queensburough Location. That place is nice! I think its pretty new.

So far, I think the best location for Nando's is the Richmond location on #3, and the worst location is the one at Ironwood.

My experience is quite the opposite. Love the Ironwood location and completely despise the #3 location near Save-on-Foods.

Queensborough is nice though. Great food and much quieter than most of their other locations.

Just had dinner at Tamayo in Denver's LODO district.

Excellent modern Mexican cuisine makes me wish we had something like that in Vancouver. Unless someone can recommend me a place.

Didn't have my camera on me unfortunately, but had a wicked Mahi Mahi civiche for a starter, and wild mushroom crepes with green chile sauce for my main.

Food - 9/10
Service - 8.5/10

Shota

Food: 7/10
Service: 6/40

BlackZRoadster 02-21-2011 07:47 PM

Why does everyone refer to nandos near save on foods #3 rd??

I think it's because Save On Foods is the most well-known landmark.

Not a bad place but it's more of an upscale/trendy place. Mexicans are to Denver as Chinese are to Vancouver. They make up a large portion of the population and hence there's plenty of good Mexican restaurants there. (like there's plenty of good Chinese restaurants here) If you want some authentic Mexican food in Denver, try head out to the Federal Blvd/Alameda St area of Denver for some good hole in the wall places. It also happens to be the asian area of Denver too if you're looking for asian food. (which I probably wouldn't suggest since you'll be sorely disappointed)

Actually, if you're into bison (buffalo) burgers, Teds which is across the road has probably the best bison burgers I've ever tasted. I always head over there every time I'm in Denver.

If you're there for a couple of days and want some suggestions, let me know. I lived there for 5 years and know the area pretty well.
