I think you're talking about Bieksa.

I think its looking like this to start the season

Sedin - Sedin - Bernier
Raymond - Demitra - Pyatt
Burrows - Kesler - Hansen
Hordichuk - Johnson - Brown

Mitchell - Bieska
Ohlund - Salo
Edler - O'Brien

Luongo
Sanford

Pressbox: Wellwood, Davison, Rypien
IR: Nycholat, Pettinger

Depending on how much the internal budget is set at, with Nycholat and Pettinger (expected) placed on IR, the Canucks only have to cut one player as they are allowed 23 players on their active roster.

Wellwood will likely start the season as a spare as he doesn't really fit into the 3rd or 4th lines with his style of play and Demitra has requested Pyatt on his line to provide some space. Rypien should get sent down to Manitoba but Coach V seems to have a man crush on him, so he might be kept up to sub in for Brown.

Expect a trade before 9am tommorrow or else Krog will likely get waived to be sent to Manitoba as the Canucks have made an agreement to supply the Moose with more talent in a push for the Calder Cup and to keep the Moose happy (there was talk in Manitoba last season about ending the affliate program with the Canucks). Moose have agreed to pay part of the one way salaries for Krog, Nycholat and Ouelette should they play in Manitoba.

The news mentioned the Canucks wanted to put Brown on waivers but know he will be picked up so they have held back from doing it.

Gillis has said he will not trade Brown or waive him again, so it appears Brown is making the team.

"We intended to put him on waivers but when we found out there was a lot of interest in him, we decided that we wouldn't do that," Gillis said. "We didn't want to lose a good young player like him for nothing. When it became clear he wouldn't clear waivers, we called him in Chicago on his way to Manitoba."
Brown is officially back in the mix and Gillis vowed Monday he will not put him on waivers again. He also said he wouldn't trade him either
I'm hearing Columbus was one of the teams that was going to put in a claim for Brown.

I think Wellwood played well enough to deserve a spot on the team. Pyatt hasn't done anything....

Agreed, but like everyone said Demitra has requested to play w/ him. So to keep him happy they gotta put him up there. Let's just hope he can jell with them.

AzNightmare 10-07-2008 10:12 AM

Well we definately need Wellwood for shootouts, because Pyatt can't do anything in shootouts either.

Pyatt doesn't use his body enough to provide space anyway, as what Demitra wants.

Guess Pettinger's injury wasn't serious enough for IR. Krog and Pettinger waived.

shoulda kept krog, waived pyatt

mako 10-07-2008 03:24 PM

they were planning to play Krog with Grabner in Manitoba werent they?
to aid in Grabner's development

Hondaracer 10-07-2008 03:55 PM

Is there any actual evidence of demitra requesting to play with Pyatt?

pyatt offers nothing that Wellwood cant, he isnt even as physical as Wellwood

Pyatt is also the worst skater we have on the team hands down imo.

I think the article was in the province.

Mason Raymond, who scored twice on Sunday, will slot onto the second line alongside free-agent acquisition Pavol Demitra and Taylor Pyatt. Demitra asked to play with Pyatt, a physical wing, and Vigneault granted that request for starters.

"They brought so many good players here and that gave us options," Demitra said. "I was most concerned about the lines, but they found the right chemistry on all four lines."

RRxtar 10-07-2008 04:26 PM

Krog will be pissed if he clears waivers

shawn79 10-07-2008 04:46 PM
