^ alot of good teams are over, or right up against the cap right now, those teams will be looking to make a trade to dump salary

Harvey Specter 08-11-2008 05:44 PM

Honestly I don't see Sundin coming to Vancouver with a few weeks left until training camp but who knows, anything can happen.

Hondaracer 08-11-2008 06:21 PM

to me, every day he doesnt come lowers the odds.. but im still hoping he does

6thGear. 08-11-2008 07:09 PM

our top of the league defense was 70% luongo. trade him away and there goes the defense.

:werd: and honestly, if he does, he's not the kind of player that we would expect anyways. He hasn't put a lot of time keeping himself conditioned through the off-season and coupled with the fact that his passion/determination in hockey is something I question right now.

VANCOUVER - When Vancouver Canuck fans get their first look at goalie Curtis Sanford next season, some of them just might be repeating that famous line from The Lone Ranger and asking 'who is that masked man?'

Sanford, who is returning for his second year as Roberto Luongo's backup, will be sporting a different look this season.

Sanford and the rest of us will learn just how different that look will be in about two weeks.

Sanford has agreed to let the fans design his mask's artwork. In fact, Sanford said Monday that the design contest announced earlier in the day by the Canucks was his idea.

"At the end of last season I mentioned it as an idea to someone in the organization," Sanford said from his summer home in Owen Sound, Ont. "We just kind of felt that in a city like Vancouver the response would be huge and I hope it will be."

The Canucks have invited fans to submit an artistic rendering for Sanford's mask by Monday, Aug. 25. To enter the contest, head to canucks.com and click on the "Design Your Mask' button.

Sanford said he's anxious to see what the fans produce and is confident there will be a number of excellent designs to choose from.

"I think everyone in the organization is anxious to see what people come up with," Sanford said. "It's a neat concept. I don't think it's ever been done in the NHL before and I think we're going to see some pretty cool designs."

Although many goalies design their masks to make some sort of personal statement, Sanford said he has no problem turning his over to the fans. Besides, he said it is time for a change.

Sanford has had the same basic design on his mask for the past five years. It was based on the Sandman nickname he picked up in the minors.

His mask has featured a character that could be best described as a cross between the Gandalf wizard in Lord of the Rings and rock star Johnny Winter.

"I have been wearing the design I have now for the last five years," he said. "I'm not a guy who is superstitious about what is on my mask or what colour my pads are. I just go with it."

Sanford figures to have the final say on the winning design.

"I don't think I will be the solitary judge, but when it comes down to it, I imagine I'll have a pretty good say," he said. "Obviously, the best design is going to win, the one that we feel is going to best fit our team and the city of Vancouver."

The contest winner will also receive an autographed Sanford jersey and a meet-and-greet with the Canuck goalie.

10charz....

^ Is anyone here artistic enough to give it a try?

6thGear. 08-13-2008 06:35 PM

its reported the canucks are talking to mark parrish. doesn't mean much till he's signed, but thoughts on him? past his prime yet? good second liner imo.

Hondaracer 08-13-2008 06:51 PM

Don't like him too much. He is going to be over paid for under performing stats.

His stats are already on the decline albeit he never really fit well in Minny.

He gets a million dollars for every 10 points he scores in a season.

Sounds like a promising player.

shawn79 08-13-2008 09:06 PM

lol

New York Islanders traded Olli Jokien and Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.

Hi_Im_Mike 08-13-2008 09:25 PM

^ Wtf?! Uhh...Are you high? Lol...

tonyzoomzoom 08-13-2008 10:07 PM

That was the original trade which moved Luongo from the Islanders to Florida (right after Islanders drafted Dipeitro)

That's how Florida acquired Jokinen/Luongo when Mad Mike was the GM.

i think he should be in the nasland money market. under 30 goals a season seems to pay about $4-5 mil.

let me guess, you thought luongo started his career in florida right?

Hi_Im_Mike 08-14-2008 01:39 AM

I know Luongo didn't start in florida. I just didn't know he was traded along with olli for parrish and Kvasha.

i don't see him signing for less than that. i know $5mill is a stretch and that would be a desperation "i need this guy" kinda signing, but realistically his market value would be around the $4mill mark

AzNightmare 08-14-2008 11:07 AM

I have a feeling Sundin's just gonna ride out the time.
the puck drops in october, and Sundin's still gonna have no official announcment.
Basically the unofficial retired player.

I mean deciding which team to play for could take a bit of thinking, but whether to play or retire, shouldn't take so long to decide.

Harvey Specter 08-14-2008 01:05 PM

Safe to say that Sundin is not coming to Vancouver.

I think it’s time to look at the players we have seeing how training camp is fast approaching us. And the more I look at our current roster the more I can't start to think that this team might actually work and be pretty good. No one can predict what team will come out on top but I think getting rid of a few players will give the rest of the players a fresh start and give the team a fresh look.
