James Van Riemsdyk - 2nd overall pick in the 07 draft behind Kane. He's big (6'3) and skilled - lots of potential.

the only downside of hodgson's game at this point seems to be his skating, but smart players typically can adjust and improve their game to make up for skating

Similar deal with Lucic when he got drafted. The only questionable part about his game was skating and he worked hard to overcome that.

Holy fuck! I think Scott N still has lots of life left in him. I really believe he is that serious about coming here, just look how close we landed him last time. Not to mention playing with his brother was a bigger point for him anyway. If it takes a Rob N to net Scott N, I'd be in on it. Then if Lu decides he wants to wait on the Re-signing, I'd say trade him for Carter. No to Briere..yeah, he's good and all, but wasn't he injury plagued the last 2 seasons? Those 2 players would be HUGE for the Nucks.

With Scott N on the back end, having a need for a $6m goalie in Luongo is pretty much NIL. There are other goalies out there and having that extra money freed up can help them sign some good players or even be able to keep the twins. Maybe Giguere wants to come up and play..:haha: With Rob N, well, I'd take him over Pyatt any day.

You know Giguere gets 5 mill a year right? I'd rather spend $6 mill on a young up and coming star d-man like Jay-Bo rather than and Scotty.

6thGear. 05-21-2009 12:22 AM

I was kidding about Giguere. Hence the laughing icon. Your saying you'd rather have Bowmeester over Neidermayer? So.........trade away players/picks versus just going out and signing a UFA player?

ChaKo 05-21-2009 12:27 AM

isnt jaybo gunna be a ufa too?

Tim Budong 05-21-2009 01:08 AM

to that philly trade
briere is 10mil or somethin over too many fucking years

and for scott yes that is the exact type of player we lacked vs chicago on the blueline

doing so will mean that the canucks are serious on building a winner around Lu

he's always been set to become a ufa. wasn't that why we thought we had a chance of grabbing him before the deadline? because florida's gm was under pressure to unload him?

murd0c 05-21-2009 09:37 AM

^ you are correct, that main reason why there was so much demand for him before the deadline. I'm still suprised they never traded him. It's better off getting something then nothing.

punkwax 05-21-2009 09:40 AM

Nieds would be an awesome mentor to Edler and Bieksa. I hope we land him. He's one older player I wouldn't be nervous about. 3rd time lucky right? :p

6thGear. 05-21-2009 10:04 AM

Yeah, Jaybo is a ufa. My bad. Well, who would you guys rather have? Scott N or Jaybo? My vote goes to Scott. Reasons? He has experience, the credentials to back it up. Has been a proven leader on every team he has played for. Led NJD and ANA to stanley cups. Made both teams contenders every season. But I think the most impotant is the fact he has the heart and desire to play here. Imo, he wants to go out on a high note and wants to do that here.

He put up more assists this season then any Canuck defensemen's point total.

...Rob Neidermayer still had 1 year left on his contract with Anaheim at that time.

Yup, I think it was just after the lockout and the cap was around 39 million, paying Nieds 6+ needing to sign Luongo, Naslund and other players at the time it wasn't in the cards.

I dunno if this has been covered in the thread - but does anyone else think that the starting position for 2010 is Cam Ward's to lose??

Is he not the front runnner for the starting position? 4-0 in game 7's - won cup in rookie year...

I love Luongo don't get me wrong..but in his biggest game of his career he let in 7 goals......

Cam Ward - even in his interviews he's so even keeled and humble calm cool and collected... - I wonder how he would perform being in the limelight though..

I think, at best, the 3rd spot on the team is his to lose.
IMO it still goes, brodeur, Lu, then one of, a number of goalies.

Hondaracer 05-21-2009 03:07 PM

give Bowmeester, Sedins, and Luongo 30 year deals.
