CL typeS 04-10-2012 07:53 PM

Anyone know anyone good at asian style tattoo artist in hk? Im looking to get foo dog or "stone lion" done while im over there. Thanks in advance

whatitdew 04-10-2012 08:04 PM

good luck getting in with Acrow. I dont think he is taking on new clients right now. J. Wark actually apprenticed him but you you will never hear Acrow say that. He apparently abruptly left Blackwater after Jesse gave him everything but the shirt off his back. Guys seems to be a bit of dick, real talented tho. He was a graffiti artist for Swollen Members back before he got into tattooing.

Sucks Rob Hope isn't doing realistic work anymore, he is definitely the best anywhere around here and most of Canada.

Jesse Young at Six Gill in Sechelt does some awesome portrait work I would check him out. Him and Piotr are bad ass tattoo artists.

Jesse Young - Tattoos for the Working Class

Also Donovan at Lady Luck in Langley is a great portrait artist.

Just got a few more hours on the rib piece, will post a pic when healed.

For you guys who get a lot of work done, what is your healing routine like and what lotion/ointments you guys use?? I just started trying this Aquaphor stuff and so far I really like it. I switch to regular unscented lotion after about 4 days into healing.

No hate, you just can't see shit. It's literally a picture of a girl in a bathroom, and even that is not nearly as interesting as it sounds :troll:

It wouldn't be hard to get someone else to take it for you, or crop the image so it shows just the tattoo... Iphones have what, 8 megapixels now?

So far everyone has been able to do that...

Who are you recommending? If there are good artists in HK I want to know about them.

threezero 04-10-2012 10:00 PM

well i have some tie to the shop, i don't want to violate any terms advertising publicly but if its ok with you i can post it?

don't get me wrong temple city is great but imo they are quite overhype much like gabe (the guy that did beckham's chinese writing) and caters to the western (ie more $$$$) crowd

they are many not so famous tattoo artist in hk (as in not much advertising in english/ no having a flashy website) that does great work but you probably wouldn't know unless you know cantonese and is in or know someone in the tattoo community.

SkinnyPupp 04-10-2012 10:52 PM

Please do share. I posted the link to Wang because it looks like he specializes in black and grey, and has done some portraits. I know Gabe and Joey are super overhyped. Joey has probably a 2 year wait anyway

Don't go to Jamie imo

Some killer work right there. The colors on #13 of the dragon look wicked. I like his use of vibrant color with black backgrounds. Also his last one (#27?) of the lions is one of my new favourite pieces.

Clint Danroth - Craftsman

Mark or Art - Funhouse

Ken Greer - Fat City

James Acrow - personel private tattoo shop

Rob Hope - rob hope tattoos

Jesse Strong - New World Tattoo

Dan Green - Sacred Heart

Trevor Shea or Ian JansenVanBeek - Three Point Tattoo

Jesse young or Piotr barker - Six Gill Tattoo Sechelt

There is a lot of others. Jesse and Jeff are great, Jesse is one of my main artists. Its just a lot of people seem to go to whoever someone tells them to see. You should spend a lot of time checking out all the great shops in and around vancouver and you may find someone with a style you really connect with. Actually go to these shops not just look on the internet. I realize some are private and you cant just go visit.

I posted another list of artists a couple pages back aswell.

Right now I am really liking six gill tattoo these guys are amazing and its worth the travel. THey are next on my list.

this is from whatitdew a while back, i checked out each portfoilio and its amazing...
