It wouldn't be hard to get someone else to take it for you, or crop the image so it shows just the tattoo... Iphones have what, 8 megapixels now?

So far everyone has been able to do that...

Long story i guess
He charges $175/hr so if i sit for 4 hrs my bill should be $700. He knows im going to tip him $100 like i do everytime and only charges my $320-350 including tax.

Berzerker 04-24-2012 09:04 AM

Ok so your not really tipping rather than negotiating his rates. In the end he's taking some cash that he doesn't have to "declare" over paying taxes on a rate (if he actually declares all his income) so in that event that's more than fair. However if you were tipping that much on a full paid sitting I would say your going way over board.

Berz out.

I usually tip 20% is that too much?

On my way to LA right now. Full day of tattooing Tmml @@

SkinnyPupp 04-24-2012 06:13 PM

Being expected to tip makes me reluctant to get tattoos in North America :heckno:

winson604 04-24-2012 06:43 PM

It really depends for me about the amount to tip or even to tip.

So far I have over 20 hours of tattoos over 4 current pieces I have. Every time the final amount they were asking was below the actual hourly rate.

For example one time at Funhouse the rate was $130/hr and it was a 6 hour job. At the end the amount came out to $100/hr so I basically just gave him around like $100 and I guess I still saved at least $80. It's all give and take really, if the artist is black and white and straight up charges you purely based on hourly then I won't tip but I've never had it happen before.

Definitely not in Japan

HK most likely not

I would say no because in these places tipping in general on anything isn't really the norm. Unlike in NA where tipping almost appears to be mandatory or else it's frowned apon by some. I mean how many freaking things are we tipping on here, food, hair cut, delivery guys, tattoo's, taxi, the list goes on and on.

Alpine50 04-24-2012 08:59 PM

I hate places like nandos that ask for tips...... But I gave my artist $50 they seemed so shocked lol

Canadian Rider 04-24-2012 09:38 PM

the worst is that half the liquor stores have the tip option in the debit machine.. the other day i went and got some beer just a quick pick up and straight to the register to pay.. i bypassed the tip option and when the receipt came through the older ladies attitude changed and pretty much snuffed me off. I understand if they help you decide on something or suggest shit but come on.. i aint paying a tip on a 6-pack.

SkinnyPupp 04-24-2012 10:17 PM

I have bought gifts for my artists though. That seems more meaningful than a tip.

Thats interesting, is it more because in hk you generally don't have to tip at all? Well im looking to get some work done in hk, should i jus give 10% since I cant get them a gift cuz im not too close lol

threezero 04-25-2012 12:12 PM

^ no need to tip in Hk. In fact the culture is to haggle on the price. But I really wouldn't haggle with someone who is gonna put something permanent on you.
