Ordered an eBook for Financial Accounting. Costed me $36, but the fucking CourseSmart platform is retarded because I can't download the textbook into a PDF file.

I can manually print the pages into a PDF file, but I can only print a max of 10 pages.. So if I manually print and combine everything into a single file, it's going to take fucking hours instead of fucking minutes.

Lol I'm the dude with the dumped Miata. Got a VI and a plethora of flats/tire issues lately so I'm on winters at the moment.

After 2 years of realizing what it took to actually get good grades at school. I got re-admitted into UBC for this winter session. Did some research and found out what I really wanted to get into and got accepted into the Resource Conservation program. The new buildings and such on campus are really nice and I'm pretty excited.

Thanks to everyone in this thread who helped out with course selections and such. In the brief time I took summer classes this year. Keating was the bomb. Such a nice guy to talk to and he's funny as hell. Langara break-down as follows for people who are going there now/taking courses there next sem.

Honestly, just find out what you really want to do. Do you: A) Want to do whatever it takes to get into SFU/UBC. B) Specialize right away and try to get into Sauder/Beedie etc. C) Get back into SFU/UBC via re-admission.

A) Check out the averages for the programs you want to get into and find out the core classes you need for which the last 30 credits will be applied to. Forestry and such at UBC is a 2.0-2.4 ish GPA to get in and it uses whichever courses you've taken as Langara doesnt offer Forestry specific classes. Same goes for other faculties at SFU/UBC etc.

B) Be sure to choose the appropriate core classes needed to transfer. Can't stress this enough. I know of people who took the equivalent of FMGT at UBC but wasn't transferable, even though it's nearly the same exact course. Choose your profs VERY wisely. Don't just pick the prof thats convenient for your schedule. The good ones are hard to come by and they fill up fast.

C) Don't make the mistake I did and try to continue taking the failed courses you did at UBC if you have no interest in the subject you're studying. I retook a bunch of 2nd year BIO and Math classes and it honestly just wasn't my thing. But I took them thinking that when I got re-admitted it was like I never missed a year at UBC. WRONG. I did horribly on them and in turn got on academic probation at Langara. Made me feel terrible. This was when I really realized that it wasn't working out for me and I decided to take other courses. To be re-admitted you've gotta meet the minimum requirements of the program you're applying for AND have a CUMULATIVE GPA of at least 2.5. That's what almost screwed me as my first year was so abysmal. Even though I was getting a 3.2-3.5 GPA in my last year. My first year still brought my average down to 2.4-2.5 to the point I was borderline in a sense I didn't meet the CGPA requirement.

Important tip: Be realistic. I tried taking the 3rd year Sauder transfer route after Science courses weren't for me and to be honest I somewhat enjoyed it. I was getting okay grades and the profs were excellent. But I sat down and realized my marks weren't competitive with what I really needed to apply. I faced the risk of getting "Okay" marks and not getting in to any program at UBC/SFU. Or re-doing all my first year arts/science electives and aceing them to reapply back and I found that once you realize you have to be realistic with where and what you want to do.

Misconceptions: "I'll just get into arts and try to transfer". This used to work back in the day but now the faculty of arts is flooded with students. Econ degrees and such are sought after and the amount of applicants they get has raised the GPA bar substantially.

"I'll never get in on the waitlist" I honestly wouldn't worry TOO much unless you were like 30+ with a week to go before class starts. If you're <10 on the list and show up to the first week of classes like a registered student. Talk to the prof at the end of the week and try to still get in.

Tips: ratemyprofs is a GREAT resource to aid in course selection. People under estimate how important prof selection is at Langara. It's a serious make or break type of situation.

Like Majin said. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Make sure they remember your name and you arent that silent kid in class that mopes around. You are just a number until the profs actually know who the hell you are.

Meowjin 05-17-2012 12:06 PM

I could never understand people who just mope and refuse to get help.

If your hungry and don't have money for food go to a food bank.

If you are having issues with classes go see the profs.

If you are depressed/anxious go to the doctors office inside of the school.

If you think you have ADHD (a very real disorder) go see a psychiatrist for free.

I got my dose doubled the other day, and I'm starting to hit the sweet spot.

All it took was one pill for me to succeed, at work, home and at school. I wish I got tested earlier, and it would have fixed some fuck ups, but what can I do. I went through highschool and most of my adult life without realizing what was wrong. I guess this is now my new beginning.

Also glad you are enjoying keating, I've had him 3 times.

Jordan offers good advice, but knowing most people at langara you probably won't listen, becuase everyday in classes all I hear from younger people how "shitty" langara is.

Wait till you see how shitty the work world is when you don't want to try to succeed.

Download CutePDF.

And when you print the pages from the online eBook, select the CutePDF printer instead of your normal printer, and then away you go.

TMT 05-28-2012 09:25 AM

Hey, does anyone know when I can sell my books to the bookstore?

BaoTurbo 05-29-2012 10:16 AM

Isn't that over? They set up a booth outside cafeteria after the new semester starts but idk about summer. Just sell it online, selling to bookstore is only for no hassle and cheap useless books

nubtub 05-30-2012 06:48 PM

selling books is over, just sell through the facebook group... LOL tried to sell my psych myers 9e and they offered me $5... made me laugh though

BaoTurbo 05-30-2012 06:52 PM

$5 for a textbook hardcopy? That covers like 1 chapter of photocopy paper. Probably not even and in black and white LOL

registration dates for fall? Got June 25
High chance of not going to school, but I activated it anyways.

TOS'd 06-11-2012 09:51 PM

I know we've gone over this before but too difficult to search. But is it when you "activate" it? Or is it still based on programs first. Got June 26 but in BBA. And from all other previous semesters BBA takes like first/second day of registration (June 18 first day).

muteki 06-11-2012 10:40 PM

^ Doesn't matter when you activate it, I always do it last minute.

Out of curiosity I did it just now even though I'm done with school in the meantime.

I have a novice question for the BBA program. I'm looking to get the marketing management concentration eventually. Is the first 2 years of the bba only 27 credits of core courses and the rest electives?

BaoTurbo 06-12-2012 12:53 PM

June 25th 1500hr. That's late. registration starts on 18th officially
